US Cavalry Revolver Question
« on: November 12, 2015, 09:26:52 PM »
I am cleaning up a Foundry mini atm, and his revolver looks like this:

Is that weirdly placed 'sight' a real feature, or just the result of a casting vent/faulty mold, please?
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Hi Argonor,

I did a quick search with Google (US Cavalry Revolver) and there is no a feature like that sight.
I suppose you have to work with file, and rebuild it in the right position.

Thanks, that's what I suspected - I also did the Google search, but you never know if somebody has some knowledge of an obscure special issue weapon.

File the end off the barrel. It is how the weapon was cast.

It's meant to represent a Colt single action army revolver. The sight is not half way along the. Barrel.

I'd suggest the same. It looks as if the barrel is cast longer due to form-making-procedure.

Correct, 100%, for cavalry

I'd suggest the same. It looks as if the barrel is cast longer due to form-making-procedure.

Actually the Colt Single Action Army .45 revolver was issued in TWO lengths:

5½" for artillerymen,  7½' for cavalrymen.

Looks as if you could cut the barrel off & have an artillery model, or,
cut off the sight & have a cavalry length weapon.

Didn't know that there were two different versions. It's very interesting. Thanks for this information.

Greetings.

Didn't some of the gunfighters file theirs off so gun wouldn't snag on their holster?

I was told so, many years ago.

Thanks, all!

Yep, looks like you can "make" that into any kind of revolver you want.  Only thing is that it's not an open-top or a older conversion (no exposed cylinder).  Looks simple enough to fix.
