Statues
« on: November 20, 2015, 07:59:17 PM »
I wanted some statues for Frostgrave and someone on here mentioned using chess pieces, so I thought I would look out for some appropriate ones on ebay. I found a few and ended up winning two auctions for chess sets - so I now have lots of statues. A few are not really appropriate (some of the bishops and castles) but most of them are ideal. One of the chess sets was a fantasy one with dragons, gargoyles, undead and wizards.

Here are some pictures of them:

Too many statues!

Gargoyles and evil wizard:

I made a plinth from styrofoam:

King & Queen:

What better scenario to play last week than the Living Museum, giving us a chance to use a few of them:

I have way more of these than I'll ever need so I've put a few on ebay (UK) - search for Frostgrave statues if you're interested.

I agree, very nice indeed! How much did you end up spending on them?

Those are perfect. Istm it's better to have your statues a different scale to your figures.

Excellent idea. I far prefer statues that don't just look like wargaming miniatures that have been painted grey.

I use Loka pieces for my statues for similar reasons to the OP. I got a mixed handful of them for next to nothing and they are fine for my purposes though the ones in this thread look a bit better to me. Loka is a chess like game made by Mantic and the pieces are made of a fairly hard plastic.

Chess pieces are a splendid idea -- I have a bunch of those little historical figures you get in museum gift shops, but chess pieces seem more imposing.
