22nd Derajat Pack Battery

Hi Folks,

At long last I finished the last mountain gun and crew for my battery. I was awaiting the Sikh command pack so I could have a command stand, so to speak. Please see photos below. I hope you like them.

The other three guns and crew were painted by Leroy some years ago. I've tried to match his style plus adding my own. The mules are painted by me also. The handlers are to be repainted as they were done about year ago and they are very sad looking.

The 22nd Derajat Pack Battery received their new 2.75 in mountain guns in Africa on the 28th August 1917. In early March 1918 they received the new 3.7 in and had to return two 2.75 in back to depot. They are also referred as 10 pounders. These little cuties were deployed in the Middle-East, Salonkia an including two in the Russian Civil War which saw service in Archangel.

Thanks for your lovely comments.

There will be no pack trains! As lovely as they would look on the table I'm only using the mules with ammo containers as logistical counters.

The battery is made up of two gun sections. Each mule will be allocated a set number of rounds an once the ammo is expended the mule disappears until the section or battery is resupplied.

Carlos, the Salonika project is progressing slowly as I paint up smaller units for this an other theatres.

Until the remainder of the foreign forces for Salonkia are designed this will be a very slow project.

If one is doing Salonika, one simply must have some cyclists. What better way is there to call in for tea with old John Bulgar across the valley?

The great thing about Salonkia is the array of uniforms on figures that are currently available from certain manufacturers. For example, we have Brigade Games that provide us with British in helmet and topis. German troops, Turks, Austrians, French troops, Indian troops and Aussies that would fit the bill also. Russians, and with a few conversions other figures that would fit the bill too.

Then you can look at other manufacturers an for me my favourite will be the conversions I'm planning for German Ulans, and others German units with a neck protector, this includes the feldmutze which had one too.

Anyway this project is a long way from finishing and will be a joy to do as I concentrate on one unit at a time.

Add also: serbians and greeks [eben Cretan gendarmes) from Tiger Miniatures. Russians in adrian helmet by brigade (alas no epaulettes). So one might have a full representation of all armies involved.

And for opposition: Bulgarians from Tiger miniatures and Austrohungarians from Renegade and the newcomer Scarab miniatures.

Yes I would like to see some cyclists, too!!!! plus some british and American nurses etc. Lots served there!

Helen, you wouldn't happen to have any pics of the real BL 2.75'', would you? I've got the whole packtrain set and, since I'd like to do it up in a diorama, I could use some detail shots.  Just wish the mules weren't in identical poses.
