Preparing a Lion Rampant campaign
« on: November 28, 2015, 04:13:11 PM »
Inspired by all the fantastic posts in lead adventures I thought I would post a few pictures of some scratch build buildings for a Lion Rampant campaign set in mid-13th century Denmark. Following the death of King Valdemar II (Sejr) in 1241 his sons Erik, Abel and later also Christopher threw the country into a bloody civil war with the leading noble families supporting their chosen candidate.
The king’s armies were fighting the forces of Count Abel who relied on the support from his German allied and hired mercenaries. Even some raiding parties from Lübeck joined in on the fight plundering Havn, the future capital of Denmark.
Towns, villages, churches and monasteries were attacked and burned to the ground by the different parties making the conflict just the right setting for a few games of Lion Rampant.
I started to paint the retinues and have now commenced with some buildings, a church just waiting to be ransacked and a few peasants houses and fields.
The quality of the pictures is not the best, but I hope you get an impression of the buildings

I'm toying with having a pop at Lion Rampant using Britains Deetail 54mm Knights. You can get foot knights, mounted knights and archers fairly easily. I know nuzzink about the Medieval period or the Lion Rampant ruleset. Can you have a game with just those three troop types, if so how many figures make up one of those retinue thingys, you lot are always babbling about!?

;) ??? ;)

Great job! Looking forward to seeing more.

Harry Faversham. What you have described is arguably the fundamentals of the English army for the Hundred Years War and the War of the Roses - i.e. the wars wot are important ( :D).

You could get a good game, and a balanced one with one side having a unit of 6 Mounted Knights, 12 lesser men at arms/ billmen, 2 units of 12 expert archers versus 6 Dismounted Knights, 12 lesser men at arms / billmen, 2 units of 12 archers archers. They would play a bit differently as the mounted knights are very aggressive but overall similar in play.

Rules mods... maybe just double all ranges as otherwise may look a bit daft?

Thanks for that, most useful. Herself was only asking wot I wanted for Crimbo the other day. A box each of mounted and foot Knights should get the ball rolling nicely.

A very worthy gift from Santa.... plenty of scope for conversions/builds too with other sets.  :)
