Lord of Plagues - Warhammer/Age of Sigmar
« on: November 25, 2015, 11:07:02 PM »
This is the first Games Workshop miniature I've painted for probably twenty years - heinously expensive naturally, but a great model all the same and great fun to work on. I've been thinking about getting into Age of Sigmar, despite all the controversy, and this is the first toe dipped back into the Warhammer world (such as it is these days).

Nice clean work on a great model. In terms of the metals have you thought about doing some rust on the helmet and the mail? I think it would bring these areas up to the same standard as the rest of the model.

Are you planning a larger nurgle warband?

Thanks! I might add some rust, but I'll have to research how to do it - my painting skills are fairly minimal when it comes to adding effects! I'll probably get the Sigmar starter set, but I like the way that the game allows you to mix factions to an extent, so I'll definitely add some nurgle figures to the Khorne army that comes with it. They were always the chaos faction that I liked the best back in the day.

A little touch of ink (chestnut &/or orange) will give you a rust effect. it is also possible to get brush pens in these colours & that is what I now use when I want the effect in a particular spot. Simply dot it on, wet your finger or brush & work it how you want.

If you are looking for rust effect GW actually has a some great products.
I'm not a fan of their regular range, but their special paints are very nice.

apply some Typhus corrossion on the places you want to rust up and dry brush with Ryza rust. Minimal skill required. I use those a lot.

Thanks for the paints advice everyone, I'll look into the Citadel special range. I'm going to try my hand at a Stormcast figure next I think, before taking the plunge into the starter set.

Nicely done!

The starter set is by far the best value for money per figure.

When you get around to your Stormcast, remember, they don't have to be gold. They don't even have to be silver, although the silver and gold look awesome.

The turquoise Stormcast, IMHO, are some fantastic looking minis. So leave your options open. Google about and see what others have done and you can even check out the GW web store for alternative paint schemes, before you decide on which to go for.

I like the turqouise ones myself.  If it were my primary army, instead of my opfor, I'd probably have done them in that.

That Nurgle mini looks great.  It had been a few years since I had played a game of WHFB and had never played much Nurgle, although I had the odd model here and there, when I saw that for the first time.  I bought it right away and took it home and painted it because it was such a great model.  Now I'm working on a Nurgle army for AoS.  It should be getting its first fight on in the next week or so.

I know, right? :) I'm converting the one I got, and might even get another.

Nive work on that one, especially the rust effect.
