Three Steps He Took . . . AoS BatRep
« on: November 29, 2015, 08:31:03 AM »
Rock and dirt were still raining down as the massive beasts wings brought it into the air.  Its eyes scanned back and forth, the hunger it felt was all consuming.  As the orbs quickly adjusted to the light from centuries in darkness it saw the small creatures scrambling over the ground, dodging as chunks of earth fell among them.

The lightning bolts crashing nearby meant nothing to the Traumire as her head darted among the ungors, swallowing several whole after bellowing out a cloud that separated the souls of the creatures from their body and then sucking in both cloud and souls.

She took to the sky again with two more of the creatures in her claws.  She tore them in twain once aloft, swallowing the top halves of each and allowing the legs to fall, another thing to be dodged by their comrades below.

That is when the dragon felt a new pain.  A missile had struck her.  She looked and saw three shimmering beings flying towards her, they were on her before her weakened and still hungry form could react, smashing their hammers into her.  Another fully armoured man charged towards her on a reptilian looking steed.

Her head snaked back and let loose with another cloud which engulfed the man and beast.  Her head then whipped around catching one of the flying annoyances in the middle and biting it in half, gulping down the delightful soul of the creature along with portions of its flesh.

Another one was about to smite her again when she caught it in her claws, the talons ripping the glowing wings off of its back as they wrapped around it.  The monstrous mouth came down again and just as quickly moved up, the prosecutor now lacked a head as well as wings.  Another hammer blow hit home and the last of the three was driving down from above, striking quickly.

Traumire retreated slightly, coiling down towards the ground around her own serpentine body, ready to spring forward engulfing the armoured gnat her great maw.  Suddenly though claws dug into the creatures hind leg and a bone-breaking blow landed on the long bone in the leg.  The dragon let out a ferocious roar of pain and tore at the creature with her claws, raking them across the creatures armour and digging them deep into the man's mount where they caught and tore the creature in two.

The Celestant fell to the earth below landing heavily.

The last of the Prosecutors had climbed high while his commander was attacking and now dove with all of his force, striking the dragon in the center of its skull, the crack was audible for almost half a mile and Traumire plummeted like a stone to the ground.

As she did so the Lord Celestant dove out of the way.  Still bleeding from where the claws had torn his armour, he staggered from weakness.  The cloud had sucked away much of his energy.

From behind a tree one of the Beastmen who had not fled now charged straight at the weakened Sigmarite and with several might blows from his ax managed to fell the mighty warrior.

As the Wargor turned to flee though a hammer smashed into a tree next to him.  Then the Retributors caught up to him.  He was caught and never had a chance to raise his ax.  The first massive hammer blow smashed him back into the tree.  The second one caught him on his bent knee as he tried to stand, smashing most of the limb apart.  Struggling not to black out the last thing his fading eye sight saw was the third hammer descending straight into his skull.

The Prosecutor landed and the four Sigmarite warriors joined their archer brethren in scouring the woods to make sure the taint of chaos was far away.

This was a continuation of our last game.  The dragon got free, the ritual was completed, but completed late.  So we decided that a weakened dragon had to eat at least 20 wounds worth of models to be able to really escape.  Also a whole army of Stormcast Eternals was descending on her.

She was probably a little too feeble.  At the end of the encounter she had only eaten 13 wounds worth, 9 of them were ungors.  Of course the Lord Celestant only had one wound left.  Had she not rolled badly in the second close combat things might have been different.

It was a three way game, the Chaos models left on that table had to get through the realm gate to get away.  All but the ungors managed to escape.

Those models will take part in part three of this battle.

The game looks great and the dragon looks suitably epic. Care to share the rules you used for her?

Just in general I really enjoy reading your narrative reports, much more exciting than the slightly tedious "I rolled a 1, he rolled a 3, but then I rerolled and got a 4 so I won" style.

Also, hurrah for the Wargor! A Beastman killing somebody!

I was a little stuck at first about what to do with Traumire.  Technically the Sigmarites won the first game but since they all got killed we figured it would be reasonable to have the ritual go one more turn and have the Sigmarites that could show up show up.

However, the original plan was to have Traumire basically be realm killing creature.  Basically an atomic bomb in fantasy.  So the Stormcast Eternals I have wouldn't really stand a chance.

After eons underground it would make sense that she wouldn't be at full strength.  I didn't imagine Traumire to be much of a morning person after all.

So we used the rules for Gaurauch slighly modified.  She didn't have the fire breath.  And she had to eat 20 wounds worth of models to get to full strength.

The retconned original plan was to leave the Beastmen there for her to eat.  And she did gobble up 9 wounds worth of them.

Then four wounds worth of Prosecutors.  I thought she was going to get the last 7 wounds from the Lord Celestant but some dreadful rolls just saved his life.  And he managed to finish her off with the help of the Retributors.

Had she consumed the 20 wounds she would have doubled everything on her Warscroll, basically (So armour save would have become 2+, move would have doubled, wounds would have doubled and so, hits would have gone to 2+, wounds 2+) and then she would have ignored or flown past the rest of the Sigmarites to go and wreck the world as panned.

But they were on her light white on rice right off the bat and she never had the chance.

The Wargor was especially proud of his killing.  He charged and wiffed the first round.  4 attacks, hitting and wounding on 3+ and didn't inflict the one wound than the lord Celestant had left.

Then the Sigmarite lord wiffed too and I managed to get first go again and finished him off.

The Beastmen can be pretty tough.  Their Beastlord is sort of badass, at least better than the Lord of Slaanesh.

Nice looking game and a great mechanic for getting that thing up to strength. I'm starting to warm to the miniatures.
