2/83rd (County of Dublin) Regiment of Foot - Talavera
« on: November 29, 2015, 11:21:59 AM »
The 83rd Regiment of Foot was raised in Ireland in 1793 as part of the British build up for the war with France and was soon given the ironic nickname of "Fitch's Grenadiers".

The second battalion sent to Portugal in April 1809 with a certain Sir Arthur Wellesley would soon prove its metal in battle showing themselves as true grenadiers and becoming one of the veteran battalions of the Duke of Wellington's Peninsular Army.

I agree totally.  Gives you more of a feel that these were men of flesh and blood performing these deeds.

Sometimes I think it is hard to feel a connection with the distance in years and culture, but the more you understand the men and what happened then to me you can.
