I saw some resin, per-painted ones at the craft's store chain Michaels for ~ $9/each just the other day.  If they ever go on sale, they will be 20-50% off...but that could be months/years.

They were quite small and round and I saw only the one size.  A trip to Hobby Lobby today did not yield anything similar so I may go back and grab a a couple myself for Strange Aeons.

Made some ages ago and posted an illustrated tutorial on my Wargame News and Terrain blog. If of possible interest you can check it here it shows the flax roofing method and bamboo matting walls. http://wargameterrain.blogspot.be/2009/12/native-village-15-28mm.html Should have added some pictures here but they are too small as they were taken with my old digital camera.

That's a useful tip about the flax roofing, Belgian. That's a nice jungle village.

Thanks, flaw roofing is easy but a bit messy and my favorite thatched roofing method!

You can buy cheap bamboo place mats, which are like lots of bamboo skewers tied together with string. They're really easy to snip to size (you can get heavy duty shears from any DIY or hobby shop) and glue onto walls. I also have a few calendars from the Chinese takeaway which seem to be a similar idea, but made from card strips instead of bamboo. Once painted that should look much the same.

Try pet stores? I've had good luck in both the fish reptile tank departments; for a while, here in my locale, the big box stores had an assortment of 'jungle huts' and foliage, along with area/culture specific temples and buildings. Lots of South and Southeast Asian stuff, as well as Meso-American, and usually pretty reasonably priced. I tend to get mine on clearance, when the stores get ready to 'flip' the product lines. My two-story resin 'village headman's hut' is from this source.
