Japanese Themed Frostgrave
« on: December 18, 2015, 07:23:41 PM »
I did collect such a lot of Japanese themed miniatures over the years but I never really had an idea how to fit them all together in one game  – but then there was Frostgrave  :-*

Although I could not get myself to make the scenery "frosty", that's why I moved the setting to a more moderate climate.

It looks great! Lovely scenery and figures. I especially like the playing surface, great colour and texture, and the spiders.

That is a truly excellent idea!

Are you still having your buntai led by Sorcerers, or have you adapted it to allow for non-magic using figures to lead?

Frostgrave is very much centered around magic users and their spells, but it is an interesting idea. I was thinking about legendary Martial Artists with a similar skillset to make them as colourful as the wizards, but I am afraid that a martial artist with lots of personal offensive capabilities would be abused as a "wizard killer". I think maybe it is worth a try (you could pit two martial artists against each other nonetheless which would lead to some climatic stand-offs).

Frostgrave is a good excuse to paint lots of peculiar miniatures from my collection so it is a good base to try out different rulesets. For a battle of the secular against the "peculiar" I want to give Daisho a try. Ronin is also a nice ruleset (I originally painted the rank & file for this game) but it is more Kurosawa than pop culture ;)
