Excuse me please. I have some questions. Why did the officer the gun butt first. How to retrieve the gun from the holster, if the handle forward ???

What is the rank of the soldier in the picture???

Pistol holster: that is because an officer would have his sabre in the right hand and retrieve his pistol with his left. you do it. just picture yourself having to reach out to your pistol on your right hip. the only way possible is if the handle of the gun is pointing to your front (they were not cowboys so forget how they did it  lol)

Chevrons: apparantly, this unit had the non com chevrons upside down (well at least the corporals) on their sleeves. this is a corporal

you have what?

I used to think that a pistol in a holster handle forward - this in order to make it convenient to carry weapons. I thought the Colt 45 caliber - very heavy things and so were his butt first. I do not understand why America's Army officers wear the holster, butt first.

And only became clear to me is now !!!!!!! What is a forward handle for the left hand !!!!!!
Thank you for your reply! For me as a sculptor, it is important to know the purpose of objects.
