Old Coast's Otherworld Skirmish- Village of Blackbarrow
« on: December 25, 2015, 06:37:55 AM »

First of all -a Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it.

I've had some time to dig into this game a bunch since I've been on a hiatus from Frostgrave with the Kids. I do like it alot. I love the narrative nature it creates and while I was somewhat skeptical on some of the rules at first, when I actually played them out  I ended up feeling they are nice fit to what the game is trying to accomplish, a different beast for sure then what I'm used to. I go into great detail on the blog about my first game , its basically a "blow by blow" . with lots of pictures. This is just the first two turns, I plan on doing several more these type reports for this game with various factions and scenarios in the next month or so ...

please let me know what you think, and if you've played the game IF I have screwed any rules up...

Peace and Good Beer to you!

lovely looking game - and fun to read your AAR

A few rules clarifications
Fate and activations - it costs TWO fate to purchase an activation
All Activations, including those bought by Fate must be placed before activating your first model

Leader Activations. When you activate a model with Leader or Mob Leader simply place the extra activation tokens alongside the chosen models, this is a free action, then finish the Leaders two actions. The leaders activated models can then be activated in what ever order you want, even after other models have activated (as long as its in this turn). Leader activations are just like normal activations

Adventure tokens require a special action of reveal, moving twice to reach one means you can not flip it over until next turn.

Also I agree that some weapon combo's don't add up - like your axe wielding ogre - as the extra 5GP for the Axe doesn't make sense compared to it's Rend attack.

Very nice report that gives a good feel how the rules work.  I've been thinking to pick up this rule set and your "blow by blow" description has given me a better idea how the game would play.

Nice looking village, who makes the two story building with the balcony?
So many games, so little time.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it, I find these walk thru's of the game are fun to do and really teach you the rules by the time your done.

The building you mention is one of mine, inspired by the awesome stuff from Tabletop World,  its a scratch build I did in 2013 . Its foundation starts with Hirst Arts blocks, then a variety of materials for the upper section.
my original blog post on it is here

appreciate the interest.

Brilliant. I was looking forward to reading though the second half. Lovely AAR and definitely helped to weaken my resolve to buying the rules.  ;)

Thanks for that. It's really useful to have a detailed run through of the game rules.

The town looks great as well.
