Looking for a fantasy spartan big figure
« on: December 31, 2015, 10:47:04 AM »
As title suggest, I'm looking for a greek/spartan figure. It has to be quite big (around 50mm tall) as I plan to use it to represent Ares in OGAM games. There's an official figure from Northstar (link), but I do not like it at all.
I'm looking for something more fantasy and more "badass". Something like the following:

First one is the one I like the most. I'm not very fond of plume on the helm in line with the shoulders (latest one).

CMON makes a nice fantasy Spartan, but sadly not at 50mm scale.
But still a nice mini to represent a hero ;)

How about Wargods figures?
They are usually quite big (but not 50mm).

Or Alternative used to have a 50mm range called Typhon

Other than that you're on to 54mm figures.
Britains used to have some plastic ones that looked ok

That first picture you linked looks like something out of the GW AoS range with a Greek style head. Maybe a conversion like that would suit.

The Typhon stuff would work.

Here's the direct link to the mini:

Edit: This mini is approx. 50mm tall. Add a cloak and maybe swap the weapon and you have a fine Ares for OGaM.

Thanks for every suggestion. Didn't knew the 50mm line by AA. Unfortunately, I do not like the sculpts very much. But sure they're cheap :) In fact, I could pick the above mini anyway, as a temporary figure until I find something I really like.

Also, thanks for the links to 28mm stuff. I already have plenty of heroes (mainly thanks to Reaper) but will gladly check for more cool stuff :)

In the meantime I did my search and found these:
http://www.elgrecominiatures.co.uk/contents/en-uk/p3348_Spartan_General.html (best candidate as for now. Not very fond of the helm plume, and I would had preferred a more dynamic pose, but overall a nice figure with a great price).
http://www.histomin.com/linesdr/pgsdranc54greeks.htm (Same as above, but with higher price.)

http://www.art-girona.com/greece-classic-world/255-spartan-aristocrat.html (Love both of these, but the price is a bit out of reach... ^^)
http://newstore.pulp-city.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=59&product_id=106 (Nice figure, very "fantasy" and dynamic. Cons: probably is a bit shorter than 50mm and would need weapon swaps).

Also, something like this could do the job.

I'll check if I find a reseller in EU.

Spartan Games did some 40mm ones if that's not too small. Just can't seem to find out what happened to them at the moment.

Could be useful, as I'm starting this as well. However I am tending towards human-sized gods for the Greeks (as opposed to any of the other 3 lists in the GaM book), as in Homer the mortals fighting the gods seem to be of a size.

what about Hellsmith form Pulp City- technically he is a supervillain, but he looks greek.

Theres more 28mm Superhero Madness at my blog, http://fourcoloursupers.blogspot.com/
And for Ultra-modern Wargaming check out Hotel Zugando at http://ultramoderngaming.blogspot.co.uk/

Thanks. Yes, I've already mentioned it. Looks great, but I would like to swap weapons.
Seeing it in the above pics makes me think it would be the right choice...
Or maybe I could use it as a different god... Hephaestus seems the most appropriate.
