WOTR in 15mm (Lion Rampant)
« on: January 02, 2016, 02:15:36 AM »
Hi all

I have been working on a 15mm Wars of the Roses project lately and I have decided it is at a point where I can stick up a few photos. Please excuse the quality, I know they're not great.

The minis will hopefully be used for Lion Rampant, I have shamelessly copied Dalauppror's multi-basing system for this rule set as I think I might go mad trying to move around so many individually based 15mm minis.

The majority of infantry are Peter Pig and are lovely figures, the cavalry and horses are Essex and are again great and mix very nicely together. The carts are Hallmark I believe but with Essex gee gees.

I have (hopefully) painted them in the retinue of Warwick, which basically just means red. There is a LOT of red.

Men at Arms

Sergeants #1

Sergeants #2

Archers

Mounted Yeomanry/Mounted Sergeants

Bidowers

I decided to use handgunners for these as I thought that they would add to the period flavour. Painted in Burgundian livery, although I'm not entirely convinced that this would be what they were wearing.

Some dead 'uns for disorder markers

Whilst I know there are no rules for banners but I had some figures so decided to have a crack at painting them. My thought being that if I chose to use any units as 'expert' I could swap out one singly based figure and switch in a banner to make it obvious at a glance across the table.

Some scenics

I'll use these as objectives for some of the scenarios. I tried to keep the based carts as generic as possible so I can use them with other projects or periods. To add a bit of WOTR theming I added this stand:

In my mind the forces of Warwick are escorting some supplies and Edward IV's man is having words.

Finally a group shot

The whole force there plus a few bits that I am currently working on.

I have another unit of Archers and another unit of Men at Arms to complete. This should give me a fairly comprehensive bank of figures to draw from. I'm also probably going to get a unit of Mounted Men at Arms to finish off.

Then I may carry on getting other useful bits and pieces, scenery, terrain, objective markers etc. with the hopes of playing a small campaign later in the year.

Comments and criticisms are always welcome.

That's a lovely little army and love the fact that you have some individually based and unusual to see round bases for 15mm.

Lovely work.  :D The multi-basing works really well at a smaller scale.

Look forward to seeing more.  :)

Really nice army, the figures look fantastic. I like the round bases too.

Is there ever any problem with using figures on group bases with Lion Rampant? I've only cursorily looked at the set and I was under the impression that it was 'large skirmish' Saga-style.

Lovely work, and inspiring too! Could you give us the base sizes used please?

Apparently not, I asked the very same question on the 'Lion Rampant' forum. My figures are four to a base, the answer I got was use a dice up to four then remove a base. Haven't tried it yet but those that have said it works OK.

Ah, great. I might have a look at Lion Rampant then, get a bit more use out of my WOTR figures. Thanks.

Very nice.

LR is a great little fun game you don't need 100 figures for.

Thanks for the responses.

For basing I use 2p coins, 1p coins, and 15mm round bases from Warbases.

I'm really not a fan of square basing unless it's for mass battles or large stands of figures so this works for me.

With regards to playing Lion Rampant with multi-based figures, as everyone has already said, it does work. Using Dalauppror's basing though it means that I don't have to use dice or counters to show which units have suffered casualties as I can simply remove the relevant number of stands.

Just trying to decide how to spend my Christmas money to keep the momentum going with this project.
