Need your advice on Star Wars Paint Colors
« on: January 12, 2016, 08:07:55 PM »
I'm working on some generic Star Wars terrain (buildings)  the prefab construction sort. The challenge I'm facing is that I need to paint them a base color that can serve for both the Rebel and Imperials as well as the the Clone Wars clone army.  This base color also needs to look good on jungle, desert and ice worlds (mats/tables).

Its probably in the grey/tan range but I was looking for recommendations on specific paints people have had experience with or have used.  I am hopeful to be airbrushing the buildings or at the very least spray painting them.

Thanks!

Hello there!!.
if you need those buildings to match either desert or ice planets..... and you pretend to use them as rebel or imp intallations....i guess the best option is to look for the same colour patterns of SW ships.
I mean. looking for weathered / battered concrete/steel colour palette.

Fantastic.  Thanks to your input and some google searches I have settled on Testors MM Camouflage Gray.  Seems to be a common go to for Star Wars ships in the modeler community and should serve as a nice generic base coat.  Now the next question is how did the two of you accomplish your weathering?  I've explored your Star Wars posts and am envious of your skills.

well i must say that i use airbrusher for my scenery. I needed to create smooth differences - or depictings?- on my colour schemes.
For instance, in the Generator i went from the darkest grey to the lightest - i used some Vallejo paints putty ( the blue one) that is applied before airbrusshing, and then retired, once dried ( that gives the paint layer chiping effects).
Also, there is the weathering part ( the funniest!) where you can use oil paintings, inks, chipping....salt techniques   and the like.
