The Cruise of the Landship Borodino - Another FUBAR VSF AAR
« on: January 14, 2016, 02:16:47 AM »
Hi All,

Forgot to put this up, yet another FUBAR VSF AAR this time using my additions to the rules covering big Landships.

The game pits a big Russian Landship up against five smaller British Armoured Steam Wagons. Seems big is good the Ruskies did well!

The Imperial Russian Landship Borodino fires a salvo:

Had a bit of Lasalle Napoleonic action last Friday too I don't have any pics for that for the Big Battalions Forum though :( ...

Cheers!

Bit of a late response, and the board has been rather quiet of late, save for me going on and...

Does rather sound like 'the charge of the light dragoons', but close run is always fun.

I am a bit curious about the 'The Borodino surges forward out of control and almost rams a British vehicle!
'
Was this from damage, or are there random occurrences even before?

Hey Beast!

Thanks!

Re the 'surge forward' event during the game in the FUBAR VSF rules ALL vehicles that fail their activation with a roll of a 1 (on 6 sided die) have to roll on the Breakdown Table...simulates the unreliability of these new fangled technologies...

So on the turn the Landship rolled a 1 for activation it was off to the Breakdown table, it rolled a 3 then Box Cars!  :)

     VEHICLE BREAKDOWN TABLE
     1. It always makes that noise. No effect.
     2. Stall! Stops moving, -2 from roll next activation.
     3. Vehicle surges forward extra 2d6".
     4. Steering locked! No turns allowed next activation.
     5. 1d3 crew suppressed (no casualties).
     6. Roll on Damage table.

Later in the game two of the British Armoured Wagons actually collided because if the same event. One rear ended an already wrecked one!

Cheers!

Intriguing, though, in our GASLIGHT games, we have certain tank drivers that fail Start/Sustain rolls so oft, the thought of adding further near certain (given their die rolls) catastrophe seems TOO cruel.  lol

Did add to the drama I must say, though we prefer such moments left to the opponents good shot.  ;)

Thanks for sharing, once again, your handsome beasts!

Interesting Doug, I like the FUBAR VSF option better it adds extra drama out of owners control, creates unusual situations in the game and seems to fit with the science fiction angle. Different strokes for different folks and I suppose it’s really only a 1 in 6 chance of anything serious after the initial 1 in 6 chance of occurring… :)

Very nice, may have to try the FUBAR rules out.

In Full Thrust circles, there's a phrase known as the Kochte Effect, as there is a particular fellow renowned for his ability to roll whole strings of ones. Always wondered if his sort of chap wasn't the reason GASLIGHT uses a 'role target or under' mechanism.

The difficulties of just getting started, or keeping it going seem 'flavor' enough, though in the GASLIGHT case, either is usually a good deal more often than one in six. A start or sustain rating of 16(rolled as 'or less on a 20) is usually high for what I've seen. Just sitting there can generate plenty of colorful language.  lol

I haven't played G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. but have been told it's good, one day if I find someone who owns locally I'll give it a go!

In FUBAR VSF the 'Kochte Effect' of rolling mutiple ones in a row are fine, on a vehicle activation roll the first one takes you to the Breakdown Table and second one says everything is A OKay  :)
