Them things what samurai have on their back....
« on: February 07, 2016, 11:24:27 PM »
Would they wear them only for big battles? Anytime they put their armour on? Only when the boss was around? The reason I ask is I am paintignup some Perry Samurai for a Ronin buntai and I wasn;t sure whether they would be appropriate for such small actions. They will be in "invasion" mode as they are fighting some Ming Chinese (and possibly Koreans if my attention span lasts...) if that matters.

They're called sashimono and they were usually used as uniforms for bigger armies and battles (since almost no samurai wore matching armour). Honestly, though, since samurai were usually very keen on their families and clans and affiliation, they'd probably wear them in everything except covert action.

Useful for showing allegiance in a skirmish game.

There are descriptions of them, and helmet ornaments too, breaking on charge impact, so I'd guess they were worn into action a lot. Anyway, they look super in big battles.

For me they look better and are far more identifiable with sashinomono and thus they end up on the majority of my samurai.

Ok, sounds like most of you would think that it would not look silly to see a half a dozen Samurai running around a Korean village with sashimonos on their back. Thank you all for your replies.

Nah it would look pretty good in my opinion. Then again I am biased a I put sashinono on everything but my missile troops for my ronin warband
