F+IW Hidden Unit Markers
« on: January 23, 2016, 08:26:30 PM »
In Songs of Drums and Tomahawks the writer suggests using woodland animals as hidden unit markers- so I thought i would have a go at making some- here they are.

Very cool idea and one which does not destroy the look of the table.  lol  It may result in a bit too much cannon and musket fire aimed at innocent animals and cattle in the future.  :D

Very nice. Been discussing using these for Muskets and Tomahawks :)

As you say, SOng of drums and tomahawks get the good idea to use animals as markers.

Even rabbits could fit the job !

I use badger, deers and birds as well.

Great !

I've had the same idea. One day I might even get them painted. Hopefully they will look as good as yours.

Nice work on those animals, I think you've captured the markings on the fox particularly well.

This has been on my to-do list for some time, and you've brought it off in great style. Nicely done!

Just curious...who makes the buffalo?

Good idea never thought of using animals, I have some from my Frostgrave setup that will do.
I was going to use  individually mounted nondescript figures with lots of vegetation to obscure them.

Ha, ha! Glad to see someone taking my suggestion! Iron Wind Metals owns the molds to the Ral Partha 25mm animals. They bring huge tubs you can scoop through and buy by the pound. More woodland animal types than you could imagine! I always come away from every convention with my fingers silvered from digging through the tubs, and a fresh bag of animals waiting to paint.

They DO make fox, by the way...

Your animals look great, Rob!

Not my best paint jobs, but here is a sampling of them for a couple, old "Hordes of the Things" fantasy bases:
