Bones...
« on: January 24, 2016, 03:05:02 AM »
The first finished unit for my Undead army...

Quote
"Of all the units in the Arch-Necromancer Sulieman's army, the armoured skeleton ranks of the unit led by Castor the Undying proved among the most disciplined and useful. These were no ordinary animated undead, if ordinary is a term that can ever really be used to describe such creatures as those of the undead. The skeletons forms in this unit were all former warriors and soldiers, many from the living units within Sulieman's army. Even beyond death they retained the martial discipline and prowess of their living form, and the unit acted in a manner for more 'alive' than the shuffling, automatons of the rest of the armies dead soldiery. This made them even more terrifying to the observer if that was possible. They acted in the manner they had in life - they held their banner aloft, the sargeants dressed the ranks, their weapons clean and belts hung with grisly trophies. They moved and fought with a deadly manner, more akin to experienced and professional soldiers than the animated dead. Often in battle, these armoured bone warriors fought in the centre of the army, side by side with the ever decreasing living units of Sulieman's personal guard, who themselves knew that death would merely see them move a few paces to the side, and joining the ranks of the unit next to them..."

The unit is seen here led by Castor the Undying and with the Half-Orc chaotic Necromancer, Silas Creek, in their ranks.

Very cool. Great to see them all wearing similar, clean garb to fit the fluff.

LOVE the blue and the Bony biting the shield.
There are some fairly old-school models in there, aren't they?
best wishes

Fantastic work! Love the colour scheme you picked, and some splendid fluff to boot.

Look great!
(and I'm jealous of your Mordheim Cult of The Possessed Magister. I'm stuck with the one that was in the box).

Very nice looking.  I like that you didn't put any "death" themed adornments on their armour.  That always struck me as odd that undead units would have all this specifically undead stuff on them.  They are soldiers brought back to life, so they would probably be wearing the kit they had in life.

My guess is that most necromancers don't spend a lot of time drawing designs for the costuming of their skeleton units, although I guess it does take all kinds.

One of the best undead units I have seen in the past few months... if not the best.
