Question about Afghanistan for anyone who has been 'over there'

During my research I have come across a picture of a mosque in Afghanistan painted a lovely sky blue and was wondering if anyone has been 'over there' and can tell me if blue mosques are at all common in Afghanistan or if this is something of an oddity.

Hah - I have that image saved during my travels for terrain ideas. Will watch this thread with interest.

In the more developed towns, I saw a few painted blue.
Most of the time though the smaller towns might only have a dome and or a microphone PA system set up for the call to prayer.

There are a few like that in towns, out in the country each village or collection of compounds will have its own mosque, these are nearly always made of the same rendered mud brick as everything else. They are normally rectangular and orientated north/south with a low wall (2 foolish) and often have a loudspeaker on a stick for the call to prayer/the infidels are coming get the guns.
