The Choir of Barachiel
« on: February 06, 2016, 09:50:36 PM »
I hope this is the right place for this, if it would be better in another section of the Forum I'm happy for a Mod to move it.

Anyway, I needed a break from painting weird, Iggy Pop-looking orcs for Paleskin, so  I knocked these out. Presenting one of the Battle Choirs of the Heavenly Host, under the command of the angel Barachiel.

Choirs are almost endlessly flexible in the way they give battle. As angels are ethereal beings, they can chose to manifest more or less at whim, within certain restrictions and traits peculiar to their Order.

In this picture the host is rushing to give battle in a unified mass, but they often break into smaller units defined by Order, such as all the minor angels, properly called Putti, not Cherubs (they are a higher Order of almost infinite power with four faces and four wings, who spend eternity singing the praises of the Lord unto the cosmos. If an actual Cherub is on your case, you may as well just pack it in now...) attacking en masse:

Supported by the dedicated Warrior Angels:

They will often break down into units of specific purpose, a Warrior accompanied by an unspecified support group of Putti:

The final group is rather unusual. While Angels are of course sexless, when incarnating for militant purposes they normally adopt a male aspect. This angel has opted to manifest as female, and the Putti are carrying female power symbols in the form of cups. This is presumably to draw on the potent female battle magic know as "Mardiness".

This particular angel is of the Order of Powers, who are diplomats, advisors and lore keepers, not given to physical combat (ence his smaller stature than some of the other angels).

He is shown here accompanied by Putti who bear grimoires and books of Law. In game terms, I suppose they would servethe function of a sorceror and his familliars.

Finally, here are couple of pictures of the Choir's leader, Barachiel himself. In Enochian tradition, Barachiel is given dominion over lightning, perfect for the commander of a fast moving, aggressive and blindingly destructive task force.

As the archangel (small "a" - Archangel with a capital is a much higher order of being, Gabriel, Michael, Lucifer type of power. Witha small "a" it just denotes an angel in charge of others) of the Choir, he is often accompanied by his personal icon bearer, whose banner bears the Enochian "B" symbol to identify Barachiel as commander:

All comments and criticisms gratefully recieved as ever.

Anyway. That's your lot. Off to Vapnartak tomorrow, then back to Greenskins.

Cheers!
JB

Heavily. I agree, the white has been nicely done.

After suffering through decades of G.W. Chaos Daemon Drivel, it's WONDERFUL to see the Forces of Pleasantness SO BEAUTIFULLY represented. RIGHTEOUSLY WELL DONE!
