Fog Template Ideas?
« on: February 03, 2016, 07:17:17 PM »
Hello all,

New to Frostgrave, but have played a few games of it now, and have fallen for it. Currently working on getting miniatures painted up, a table, and of course some spell templates!

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on good fog templates?

Cotton spread out works, but doesn't quite seem as refined nor re-usable as I'd like.
I've looked around a bit, but not come across anything that really has stood out, so I thought I'd post here, and also say Hi :)

Cheers

Perhaps the recent Games Workshop ghosts (spirit hosts?) could work.  They're a plastic kit with a thin, wispy ghost.  Painted right, and put on the right sized based, it could work as a ghostly, magical fog.

Gray computer packing foam like this guy did for smoke markers (not my page but this is where I found the technique when doing my own research):

But shape it wider and squatter like a wall of fog, and add a lighter gray or white drybrush on the bare foam instead of painting fire.

I printed a fog texture image onto cardstock then cut out templates to the right dimensions. Models can walk over it if need be and I also made a 3" high standee from the same stuff to help check line of sight.

I use a piece of styrofoam covered in cotton that matches the dimensions of the spell

Thanks guys, some cool ideas here, I quite like the smoke markers link, although cutting a squareish sponge down, adding cotton for better texture, and doing some painting sounds like it might work out pretty great.

How about bubble wrap?
2 layers supported by a bit of clear plastic (recycled blister pack) in the middle will stand up.
Not completely foggy, but it obscures vision and can be blurred more by giving a white/grey wash over the clear plastic before gluing the bubble wrap on.
