All these years, I could've sworn Allanon was black.

How so? None of the artwork ever depicted him as such.....

I always thought of Rasputin when I thought of Allanon.

I certainly did not think of Gimli when I pictured Eventine.

Dreadful script (Elves saying things like 'Are you kidding?" Not very 'high fantasy!), mediocre acting, but as somebody said earlier...just the right side of awful. I really kinda enjoyed episode 1!!  Will certainly keep watching...after all, Elves, Demons, magic, etc... What's not to like? :D

It's a bit "Shannara 90210", but I'll keep watching it. The Shannara books were some of the first fantasy books I ever read, back in the old days when dinosaurs still roamed the earth!
Adventures? Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner!

GOOD special effects?  ;) I've honestly seen some more convincing LARP outfits...

All mockery aside, I've found the show a guilty pleasure. I enjoy the bright colours and not too serious dialogue and humor. While the actors might not win any Oscars I think they are good enough for what they do. I actually like the main three, think their characters have a good dynamic.

And it's nice to see a more light hearted take on fantasy than 'Game of Thrones' grimdark.

Shannara was adequate but derivative.  If it is all about T&A I prefer the wife to that kind of fantasy so I will pass.  Too bad, when done well I think high fantasy can compete with and other visual story line.

I thought it was definitely watchable, rounded buttocks aside, it seems very much the fashion now (it kinda reminded me, acting wise of 'The 100' that apocalyptic sci fi series that I thought got more interesting as time went by).

The armour worn by the Black Guard looks like the armour in the Snow White and the huntsmen film during the battle at the start.

Either way I'll watch it and see where it goes, might be quite the thing to have on while lazily painting some minis.

I guess I must check this out.
The second shannara series was the first fantasy series I bought in my teens after LOTR.
I've read the origional as well by now. I must admit, not that special, but maybe in it's time when you weren't thrown to death with fantasy novels.
I do have a special place for the elfqueen of shannara. I loved that book. Not sure if it still holds up, but I have fond memories of it.
Even used the plot in an AD&D campaign.

LOL, you don't know my wife's opinion on Shanarra, loved it until it got "Too many books on a shelf" level of repetition.

You were talking about the books, right?   ;)

Seriously she likes the stories (digital, movies, print,) to have plots, karma/justice to collect its price for Evil, and some sense of coherency in costuming/dialogue/theme.

Yes to the pre-deluge of everybody has a trilogy (or a Freaking Wheel of Time) when it was more acceptable to be "inspired by LOTR" than now when I have pretty given up on clones of other authors Fantasy reading.

Elf Queen was actually pretty good.

As for the TV series I must admit, in truth in advertising sense of the word, that TV pretty much disappeared from my life decades ago.  I don't have cable TV and it is not coming back at this late stage of my life.  Once was enough.  The TV is my DVD viewer...

I like how distance is flexible. Characters can travel for days to get to a place, then get back home from there in under a day. Everything is within walking distance even though the landscape is radically different. lol

I am guilty of watching this....

Never could get into the books (back in the day)...

But i like the series, so the family watches.

You want your socks blown off?  WATCH "The Expanse"

I like it better than Firefly, and that is saying a lot!
