Ok, I added the option of a form-fillable PDF... it wasn't quite as much work as I thought (hopefully there are no glaring issues). The link is at the end of the original blog post...

I've been recently Googling for something like this and couldn't find anything.  I am so happy you spent the time and created this -- was considering doing something similar, but I am sure it wouldn't look as good as this.  Gonna download, print and use these sheets.  Thanks again!

Just piping in to say that I really really enjoy these sheets. We're about to start trying out Frostgrave locally, so this come just at the right time.
Way more evocative than the, frankly, drab official rosters.

Just a follow up: We started Frostgrave yesterday, and I printed one of these sheets for each player in our group. It got very wel recieved. Definitely, in my opinion, adds something to the game.
My only quibble is that the "Vault" box could use a bit more room.

The captain takes up a soldier spot.

Where does that info come from, btw? I can't see anything in the Sellsword pamphlet that makes this clear and I can't find anything in the rules thread about it.

Thanks

Doug

As per the foreword to Sellsword, the Captain is just a special type of Soldier. As the Apprentice takes up a 'slot', so does the Captain.

OK - in that case. I shall venture a mild criticism. The fact that the Captain is just a special type of soldier is A Rule. As such, it shouldn't merely be alluded to in an introductory chapter - it should also be stated clearly in the detailed info on pages 2 and 3.

Fair comment?

Doug

Doug,

It is certainly a fair comment. I agree it should have been made more explicit and it is easy to see where confusion can arise. I think this is a case of being too close to the project - even when dealing with the playtesters, this is probably something I said to them before they actually saw the document, so it just kind of slipped through. We'll try to catch it next time.

Joe - I've been involved in writing and developing various sets of rules myself and I understand the pitfalls. Rules are a form of very demanding technical writing and things that appear obvious often aren't and vice versa. A minor point overlooked can become a major headache for players. I don't know of any wargames rules that don't have these small issues. Frostgrave has shown by its success that it's an excellent example of a good rules set and small areas of query (like this one) cannot detract from that.

Well done on the project as a whole and thanks for a straight-forward reply.

Doug

Absolutely, and I'm sorry if I was a little curt with my previous response - it was intended to be a quick reply, not a dickish one!
