i'd start over but with more focus, skip all the half finished/half started and poorly chosen scale efforts.  i'd pick one genre/period, in the most common/easily obtained scale to start with.  build it back up in a more methodical manner, than my haphazard "ohh that's nice".

I would do the American Revolution in 10mm instead of 20.....

I would probably keep a small collection and sell stuff as I sculpted/painted it (to keep the small collection).

I would also get casting/moulding equipment so that I could do my own stuff (possibly for sale).

As for miniatures... I would stick with what I know and go 28mm sci-fi :)

I lost my entire collection of 15 and 25mm in a storage fire.
I dropped out of the hobby for a while but got back into it when Foundry brought out their 28mm Darkest Africa range
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

I'd do something else.

I'm with you.

A million other things.

being realistic, with the cost of hookers and blow being only slightly less than GW, I would most likely just do gundam.

I don't think I could replace everything I have now if I tried so I probably wouldn't try.  As my gaming group has a stupendous number of miniatures, I would game on.  New collections would be in new areas.

I'd definitely keep gaming...maybe move to deluxe board games (and perhaps paint those figures etc.) or just paint up small skirmish groups for a variety of games (I'd be fine painting another 20 gladiators, or 20 cowboys etc.) but full on projects would probably not make a come-back.

Not sure. Realistically my age would dictate that I shouldn't start over. I would never be able to replace a few thousand painted figures in time to  still play with them.
My books and manuscripts would be the severest loss. Less than a quarter is digitized and some literally irreplaceable.

But I'd probably start small again with gladiators and perhaps a 'few' Dark Ages figures.

Only 'advantage' I can think of is that I would never start with a series of figures that was never completed.

Since my return to 'the hobby' I don't do that now anyway, I've done my share of supporting new ranges that are never completed.

I'd like to think that if I had to start again I'd do a more sensible scale like 15mm.

However, 28mm figs were my first and main interest and I think if I would still be drawn inexorably toward them.

However if starting today (rather than the early 90's) I would skip GW altogether. Me and GW have had alotof good times and I still have an abiding love for the 40k universe and Necromunda.  Still, if starting today there's no way I could stomach the cost of entry.  I'd probably still be playing kings of war and/or warpath though.

Think I would start again but just do a couple of projects in 28mm that most interest me and not be distracted.

I'd replace those things that held nostalgic significance to me and then only buy what I can paint and not purchase more until those are painted.

I think, on second thought, that what I thunk earlier should be rethunk.

If I were to start over... I would do it like DeafNala and his 215 pages of the same project.
