First try at ancients, first try at 6mm.
« on: February 15, 2016, 09:04:40 AM »
Hi all,

stepping away from frostgrave painting for a weekend gave me time do drum up a tester for my upcoming Iceni army. Using baccus 6mm celts I had a go. Not overly sure on the outcome.

I did some research, and whilst everyone has the Iceni down as 'blue blue blue' for a colour scheme, I read that they just used whatever dyes were common back then so I mish-mashed some blues, dark greens, reds and neutral browns. Topped off with some lime white scribbles.

Personally I started off think there is a place in hell where sex offenders are forced to paint 6mm for eternity, but the finished article made the slog worth it. Only about 1000 more individual troops to go.....

Sorry for the quality, I will dig out my macro camera for the next batch. But you get the jist.

Those are great!   A lot to be said for the look of mass one gets with 6mm- not to mention the storage benefits!

We are using Hail Caesar rules, which states 48 figures per base, but I think that is a wee bit crowded. Will see how it works out. Also I will need a trip top the opticians after this army...

Great looking units, Jockjay!

Just to clarify, the Hail Caesar rulebook doesn't actually give a recommendation for the number of figures per base in 6 mm. In fact, basing in HC is quite flexible, and even the numbers of figures given per unit in the rules are merely suggestions stemming from the author's own 28 mm armies. Players are encouraged to base their figures pretty much as they like, and to field units with as few or as many figures as their own preference dictates.

Cheers,
Scott

Thanks for the clarification Scott, that's good to know! I have been perving on other gamers units and was trying to add up the tiny people in them and rationalise where they got that number...

Lovely looking stuff! 6mm certainly gives that 'mass effect'!

I'm looking forward to having the whole army arrayed.

Personally I started off think there is a place in hell where sex offenders are forced to paint 6mm for eternity,

I found painting them quite calming..
But in my Seleucid army almost everyone had a helmet :)
(Gluing little spears made from sewing pins and made them stick in same direction was hall for sure.. but seeing my full syntagma of sarisoforoi make me proud)

Don't loose heart :)
