I actually had a book or two like this when I was a kid - had picked them up at a museum or battlefield somewhere.  Very cool.

Interesting point. I wonder if it is because the upper bodies and arms and heads are cut out, that you get far more of a 3D appearance to the block of troops.

I think its absolutely this. I've seen other paper soldiers which while nice still have a large expanse of white paper around the figure and it completely destroys the illusion (though someone once did ECW armies in black and white purposively to mimic period engravings and it looked quite nice).
I'm looking forward to all the future books, seems we are getting Romans-vs-Gauls, 1066, Wars of the Roses (this year I think), Spanish Succession and American revolution. From my own experimenting fixed bayonets are a bit of a challenge, so it will be interesting to see how those are tackled.

Those both look very good indeed, not ones I would wargame but I would take a punt with this. :)

Does any one know if Peter is planning to do a ACW book?

Doesn't fit with the "Battle for Britain" theme series, but I assume they are branching  out after then next few titles given that WSS and AWI titles are on the way.

I can't imagine they'd miss out on ACW as the homogeneous uniforms make it one of the easiest wars to do.

Hi, yes I can confirm that I've seen some pictures of Confederates; I can't recall if they're somewhere on FB of if one of my colleagues had shared them. But yes, as far as I know they are coming at some point.
