Thanks Lucky!

Here are the added guys from today...seven more jump marines (giving me a total of 12, so two squads of six if I ever use Lasers Rampant).  Replaced the legs on the terminator with cleaner ones (though I prefer the other set's shape).

I like 'em, they look great! You can't beat a squad of beakies. I really like that dark green that you have
used, do you mind telling me what it is?

Army Painter Angel Green Primer.  I just assemble the head/torso/packs and spray em, then spray the legs/arms white.  Paint up some details, dip and finish off the bases.

Cheat!

In all fairness a very clever use of the spray 'n dip approach. I mean imagine shading all that white by hand like this.  o_o

How do you dip the white without making it look dirty? ???

I'm damn impressed.

They look great. Especially if the are quick painted.
I always fail miserably at painting Space Marines.
Is Lasers Rampant a homebrew or an upcomming Osprey release?

Some people are homebrewing it, AFAIK.

You're damn right I cheat...or else I'd never paint them.   lol  Particularly some army I'm not overly fond of.  This approach works particularly well for sci-fi stuff when you can get away with painting armor a few simple colours.  I dip all my fantasy stuff but that's after actually having to paint the bastards.

Regarding "dirty"...they do end up dirty for sure.  It may not show in the pictures but they're way darker than before priming.  They definitely have some dip-pooling mistakes in certain areas, but these are soldiers.  Soldiers and dirt work fine with me.  If anything I think it makes them look about perfect as far as shade/dirt/grime.

My process is simple:

-Glue legs to 25mm renedra base...apply basing material (three types of ballast)
-Assemble chest/head/jump pack
-Prime legs/arms/one shoulder pad white
-Primer torso bit and one shoulder pad green
-Paint up details/weapons/eyes/metallics/blah blah blah
-Glue together
-Dip (I dip straight from the can and use ripped bits of paper towel to reach and grab up big pools of dip while the rest falls off...this still means after a night of dip-drying I come out and find some pools of dip on certain parts, but it's been reasonable so far)
-Paint the base and dry brush

Even cheating it takes a little while and I've never assembled miniatures post-painting before.  I can imagine it'd be even more easy painting say Blood Angels, Ultramarines or another one-colour army.  If you wanted a real short cut you could literally spray...paint bolt guns...dip...base, and be nearly tournament ready.

Added a few characters...

A Terminator-based Techmarine, and a Librarian of some sort.  A few more pics on the blog.

Been working on a couple of vehicles, but just ruined one of them experimenting with dipping vehicles!  :`

They are bloody marvelous.

Dipping vechicles? As in brushing it on (in layers if need be) or having a 10 litre paint tin of the stuff and actually dipping it? :-I

I got a bit cheeky and tried to dip my rhino in three portions (older rhino so it's essentially three parts).  They actually fit in the can, but the dip was the wrong can...not the thin stuff I had planned to use, so it globbed up badly.  The sides are fine, the main chassis will be stripped or re-sprayed and tried again with the thinner dip.

I tried to pick up a larger empty can at the local hardware shop and they didn't have any.  I was planning on dumping two of my older dip cans in it with some mineral spirits.  I got impatient...and thus...failure.  Shame too, they're the older rhinos (new in box) so I need to save them - can't easily replace them.

These are lovely, some of the nicest dipped figures I have seen, I fave dot the Deathwatch game pimarily for the cultists, think I might try dipping for this set, at least then they might get painted.

So, here is my kit-bash I hinted at earlier.

I put the Contemptor Dreadnought up for sale when I first got it because the legs/pose suck...and the face/helmet was dumb.  Simple as that.  When I decided to flesh out my little marine force, I figured I'd want a dreadnought of some sort, so I decided to keep it.  I bashed it together with a bunch of VOTOMS bits, and this is the result.  He's huge...but I vastly prefer it to the stumpy looking one from the box.  Dip doesn't work well at all on vehicles, namely large open areas...but it comes across gritty and war-beaten, so I'll leave it as is.

Now, THAT is superb!
 :-* :-*

I too hate the stupid pose that the original has but you have dealt with it extremely well.
Kudos!
