A smallish cannon in use by the Russians 1831 has anyone any idea what it might be?

It looks like Węgłowski pattern of Russian fortress carriage

15 years later

Although I am not expert on Russian artillery, Its most definitely to small

I doubt that is a realistic example of a gun.
The smallest post Napoleonic Russian Field Artillery piece was the 6pdr, still in use during the Crimean War;

Most likely a bit of "artistic licence" going on with the painting.

Lightest russian cannon looked more like this, although again much later period - lightest Węgłowski carriage.

So it is probably fictional.

It's most likely that the artist simply got the proportions wrong.

I agree with Shipka, I think its an ex Napoleonic period bronze 4 or even 3pr battalion gun judging by the size. In my line of work I find that most historic artists naively render cannon carriages too large. This feels kind of specific. The barrel proportions are also quite slender and the mouldings quite well defined.

The artist seems to have attempted to render a wooden split trail carriage judging by the wheels and general arrangement. The transoms are in the right place. Most of the iron fortress carriages were designed to be taller to peep over embrasures and field defences...
Warriors dreams, summer grasses, all that remains
