Companion Miniatures
« on: March 10, 2016, 11:24:52 AM »
I've just got some Wargames Foundry caesarean romans as I plan to dabble in the period with Open Combat. I really like the range, being a big fan of Foundry and Mark Copplestone and there is probably enough there to keep me going for a bit.

But...

I have come across mention of a company called Companion Miniatures who were selling some old grenadier caesarean romans, sculpted by Mark Copplestone. I assume these would mix in well and give me some more options. However I can't find the company any more, and can't see what happened to the sculpts.

Anyone know anything...?

They are out of production- it seems very unlikely they will ever be produced again, I'm afraid.

The question comes up frequently on various forums. To my knowledge, Glenn Foden, the original owner, "re-released" the whole range via ebay a few years ago. He'd sent us a list of codes, but we never heard of him again. So, apparently that source's run dry. A shame, really.

They were conversions of the dollies of the Foundry romans, I think by both Will Hannah and Jim Bowen, i.i.r.c.
I remember that ebay offer of an entire army only of Libyans, not single packs.

That's a different range, produced during the "interregnum" at Wargames Foundry, possibly to get rid of old IPs. There are some remnants in their current catalogue, e.g. some Roman civilians.
Companion's Republican Romans, however, were original sculpts by Mark Copplestone, if in the style of his earlier work.

Be a terrible shame if they never see production again, I would have loved to have gotten my hands on the Romans and Spanish. I believe there were mounted Gauls also?

There where cesarian romans (foot and mounted), celtiberians (foot and mounted), gauls (foot and mounted), numidians (foot and mounted).
From time to time they appear on ebay. You just have to be patient and wait.
