More 'orrible Airfix vehicles
« on: March 02, 2016, 05:30:10 PM »
Following on from the Jackal I've had a go at a couple more of the Airfix 1/48th vehicles...

First up, the Warrior - deliberately left off some of the anti-IED bits (because they were so fragile there's no way they would survive gaming). Assembly wasn't helped by the kit containing 2 'B' sprues and no 'A' - something it took Airfix 2 months to sort out   :?

And then a Snatch Landy (snatch being the appropriate word because it was an absolute **** to put together due to the chassis being warped and only fixed due to the assistance of a long forgotten about fag lighter) - if I wasn't already waiting for them to sort out the Warrior it would have gone back    :'(. Again, bits deliberately left off for survivability....

Good work, like them a lot.
How do you think they will standup to gamming?

For all your troubles, they both look ace! :-* What's the plan for them? What game you playing? What size of force you going with?

Both vehicles look sharp!  8)

I have two of those Snatches, no probs with the kits myself. I think they will withstand gaming use nicely, I opted leaving out many fiddly parts as well.

Maybe the Airfix having problems to deliver parts has something to do with their financial problems in general, they might be going under :/

Great work!  I've always wondered about the usability of these as gaming pieces.  I'm still unconvinced on the warrior.  The anti rpg stuff looks too fragile for my hamfisted gaming ways
Smile!  It's not that bad!

Cheers, all  8)

I'm hoping that being based will help them survive gaming. I've started assembling another Jackal (the new Empress crew convinced me to give it a go), replacing anything fragile with brass - might not be quite as accurate but a lot stronger.

The bar armour on the Warrior (apart from round the turret) is fine.

The big advantage with these was that they were very cheap in the Airfix sale - got 6 in total for around £20 ... if I'd paid retail I'd have slit my wrists by now  ;D

No idea!

Like most of my 'armies' this was 'nice figure' driven (especially once 1RRF got an otterhound mascot) and I wanted vehicles to go with platoon I painted.

I'll start looking at rules once I've got these and an opfor done  ;D
