UGL = Under Slung Grenade Launcher
PDW = Personal Defence Weapon
ATGM = Anti Tank Guided Weapon (I think)

I am sure there are many more knowledgeable players here, but here are my thoughts on this question:
Quote
Page 30 Guards:
Quote
...we only roll for guards who are in potential line of sight to the enemy OR are within 12"
(my emphasis)
So the guard reaction is rolled for if he's close enough to the enemy even if he can't see them. But then it goes on to say
Quote
If a guard is beyond 12" or cannot possibly see the attackers from where he is, he does nothing

So he DOES need to be able to see them to activate but does nothing if out of range. But then...
Quote
Alternatively, any guard out of range can be moved 3" directly forward by the defender

So he does potentially do something when out of range  :?
For the first two quoted pieces of text, they are (at your emphasised text points out), not the logical inverse of each other. One of the condition pairs needs to be And.

My vote is the second one should be And.

My logic is that (assuming clear vision, not night, mist etc), that a guard can spot an intruder if there is a potential line of sight to the intruder, or that the intruder is within 12" and can be heard.

The third quote (a guard can be moved Forward 3") is important, the guard can only move Forward, so if the intruder is beyond 12" and not in potential line of sight and additionally in the other three arcs of the guard he cannot drift closer - potentially into the 12" sense range.

As it states in the text initial positioning is important, you need to have the guard facing the right way. Unless you have a predefined sentry path, you cannot change the direction of facing of your guard.

So yes, if there is nothing to see or hear, he can move, but only forward.

Yup (Missile but yes).
PDWs are the very short close protection weapons - short M4, MP5K, FN P90 (as used in Stargate TV series).

One thing which confused me was whether stats of pre-build figs include the equipment they have or not...

I remember getting this confused a couple of times.

A lot of questions, I will try to answer based on what we did in our games.

1) The 3+ saving throw already includes armor and tough.

2) you are correct.

3) Again, correct.

4) Guards who have no enemy in sight and not in 12" do nothing OR move 3" forward (your choice).

5) The guard reactions are certainly the part that causes most difficulties. Here is what we do:
If a guard is activated and has one or more enemies in sight, he can force one of them to make an observation check. If the enemy fails the check, the guard can fite at him or shout "intruder alert". After this the guard returns to Guard Mode. In future activations he has to dice on the Reaction Table again and can again visible enemies force to make observation checks.
So far you were right. But if he throws an 8+ on the Reaction Table, he comes permanently under full control of the player and can act at will.

6) If a guard has been attacked in CQC, we treat it as activated for the rest of the game.

7) This means a guard in CQC is activated and don' t have to roll on the reaction table any longer. Guards cannot leave CQC voluntarily, they have to fight their way out.

8) when a figure enters a zone with suppression markers, it has to stop and deal with the suppression. It can not pass through and attack etc.

9) You can target a point on the ground and create a zone of suppression with 3" diameter, not 6". If there are any models in it, they have to deal with it when they are activated.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the continued support. I have been the long overdue collating errata and will knuckle down and get it finished. It is true I am working on a version 2, publisher TBA.

Guy, love the game as is, but I'm very intrigued to hear this. I get the impression from things you've posted in the past that there were a few things that didn't make the cut in V1 due to page count issues.

There are a decent number of people out there playing the game, if you need any support from us I'm sure I speak for the others when I say we'd be glad to help. Proof reading, playtesting, whatever.

Bottom line is everybody starts with a 5+ save. If they've got "tough" or armour that will be modified, so if you see anything other than 5+, then it should already include their armour/tough modifier.

Stuff like ACC and CQC isn't modified by equipment, so that's innate.

Brilliant, thank you. Always good to hear someone else's interpretation.

9) You can target a point on the ground and create a zone of suppression with 3" diameter, not 6".

This is the only point I'd disagree with as the rules state:
''Roll to hit as normal, and place the Suppression counters on the designated location - they will affect any model or unit which goes within 3" of them''
which surely means it has a 3" radius and therefore a 6" diameter, which ends up being quite a significant size!

Guy, just spotted one and I'm not sure if it's been brought up: the medic table down the back of the book has nothing for a roll of 4.

Suppression -- Retreat choice (pg 13) -- "...It moves directly away from the source of the suppressive fire..." How far of a move? Cautious/Advance/Run?

Thanks

Hey

I've dusted Black Ops rules off recently and some uncertainty about some points of the rules arose.
Mainly guards rules are not clear, also regarding previous answers here.

I think that according to the rules you cannot got full control of guard until alarm is raised.

Here is extract of the rules from p. 31:

"As a guard moves around, there is a
chance he will observe the intruders. A
guard won't shoot unless he has identified
a clear enemy target, nor can a guard raise
the alarm until a clear threat is spotted.
Once an enemy has been identified (see
Observation Tests, p.23), a guard may
take offensive action (open fire or shout
'Intruder Alert!').
A guard can only be put in Reserve
when the defender rolls an 8 or higher for
his reaction (as above), placing the guard
under the player's control. Once placed in
Reserve, however, the guard's actions do
not have to be rolled for until the defender
chooses to take a different action."

It is not 100% clear from that, but it rather states that you can only put guard in reserve mode within visual arc.

Also regarding that guards which survived melee or shooting they can only shout "Intruder alert!":

Observation test p. 25:

"A guard who survives a surprise attack (hit but not wounded) is aware of
his enemy and can shout 'Intruder Alert' when activated, whether he can see the
attacker or not!
"

Still not clear, but it is nowhere written that after such attack you get full control of a guard.
Also it is strange idea to me that let's say half of defender team is in guard mode while the other half is fully controlled and engaging enemy which the are aware of (while guards still doesnt know about attackers commando presence).

Any ideas or thoughts :)?
Regards

So we just passed the SEVEN YEAR anniversary of this thread, and over FOUR YEARS since the promises to get it done, and still no errata or FAQ to be found. I know life gets in the way and all, but this is crazy.

Is this the norm for Osprey, or this author?

I think it was a one-shot with no further ideas. Very bad, but not a single experience. I had also the hope to get more, but my hopes are gone..
