1950s SF Movies Aliens and Robots
« on: December 17, 2008, 07:39:03 PM »
I know there's plenty of pulp aliens and robots out there, but are there any figures that would work as 1950s aliens and robots? I'm thinking of the mutants from films like Invaders from Mars and This Island Earth, the martians from War of the Worlds (what we see of them), and robots like Gort from the Day the Earth Stood Still.
Waiter, my soup is giggling.

Not a whole lot out there. Look at Hydra's Robot Legion for robots and Ground Zero Games Bug Eyed Martians in their Characters & other miscellaneous figures catagories. Killer B games will be releasing Star Patrol which is based on '50s SF and may have what you are looking for, at some time in the future. Recreational Conflict carries them in the states, along with Hydra. Brigade Games has an Alien Invasion line you might like. Blue Moon Aliens and Spacemen may also have something you can use, but none of thier items recall any 50s films the way Ground Zero does. Lastly East Riding Miniatures has the Golgo Island series with the Alpha Zorgl which you might recognize. Wether you want it is another question. Please ask me to clear up any of this which isn't clear. I don't      know how to post links on this board or I would have done so.

The "Space Vixens from Mars" range might have some figures you could use.

Regarding the Alpha Zorgl from Golgo Island, is that from some movie, or something? I can't say it rings a bell.

GZG are nice but too small, and that make me worry about the Space Vixens range as well. Love the Brigade robots and Greys, and impressed with the Blue Moon aliens as well. Rethinking the Alpha Zorgl, never realised it was actually inspired by an old movie. We need more BEMs like the metaluna mutant from This Island Earth! Thinking about the Thrade from 3D miniatures as well. Thanks for all the help folks!

Thanks for mentioning 3D miniatures Thrade, Onebigriver Thats a January want for me. Now if the sculpters are reading this thread, we want a lot of This Island Earth Metaluna mutants and the humanoids with the big foreheads are a nice subject too.

And it's a hell of a nice miniature. Absolutely worth it. Classic Bob Olley sculpt - almost paints itself! Just painted it up, along with several of the Pulp "Radon Zombies" and some of the Brigade Killer Robots. Granted, they're intended for a Pre-WW2 era Pulp Sci-Fi game, but still...  I will post some photos as soon as I can. Wife knows better about how to take pics of these guys, and I'm waiting for her to take the time to explain, as I'm all thumbs when it comes to photography.

Someone used to do Metaluna inspired figures many years ago (thinking late 70s), possibly Asgard Miniatures (they used to have an SF range) ?

Otherwise, how about Irregular (they have lots of odd bits and pieces) or Eureka ?
