Another Ghar topic
« on: March 11, 2016, 07:06:47 AM »
Iwas at Overlord (a small show at Abingdon in the UK) and I bought a Ghar Assault Squad boxed set (3 models) on a whim. I am glad that I did because they are really great little kits that go together very nicely and are simple to clean up. Here's what has happened to the first one:

Before:

After:

It still needs the base finishing but I am quite happy with the end result. I've deliberately used a limited pallette to keep it simple (dark green, dark bronze, gun metal and red for the 'eyes... washed with a dark brown wash).

The next one is primed and ready for the same treatment :)

I definitely think that these models suit a dark colour scheme.

Suddenly, the Gar look a whole lot more interesting!

They look good, but I'm almost disappointed that you didn't convert them somehow, its kind of what I have come to expect from you.  lol

Cheers ... and I haven't converted THESE ones  ;)

I've got the original box of three with another three different ones just arrived today so there will be time for converting at some point :)

Just for the sake of it (incase people were wondering), here's a scale pic:

I really am not sure how I am going to progress with this little project yet... but one thing is for sure; I won't be using the Ghar alien miniatures. I am trying to decide whether to make this an all mech project or a mix of mechs and troops (maybe even Cephalapods  :o )... decisions, decisions :)

I vote Cephalapods  (though my spelling corrector is trying to tell me its Cephalopoda)

I think these might fit?

I am heading towards a few Cephalapods... probably the ones from Black Hat (I need them to be small enough to fit inside the suits and as good as the Ramshackle ones are, they are just too big :( ).

As for the Ghar suits, I have now 'finished' two with a third in the WIP stage:

With more 'army build' information on the blog, along with cow 'fart packs' :o ... worth a look :D :

I'd figure the ramshackle ones would actually fit, you can find videos of huge octopuses fitting inside tiny pots and cans, having no bones helps.

Those look like they could be used across multiple scales very easily.  Small mecha or combots in 15mm, light Titans in 6mm.

Somebody on the 15mm sci-fi facebook group replaced the head with cannons and put Brigade models hatch and commander on the top. Very cool little rotund mechs that way!

Yep, the ramshackle tentacle brains look like they'd fit great. Just bought some of them recently, still waiting for them to arrive. I think the multiple legs makes the occupants look like they shouldn't be humanoid.

My thoughts exactly. I like the Ramshackle squids but I want mine smaller and to have little if no weaponry (they would remain inside their suit if at all possible) so they would be limited to 'escaped pilots'... hence I'm steering a bit towards smaller scaled cephalopods, like the Black Hat ones).

Of course... seeing as I don't plan on having too many, how hard can a squid be to sculpt? :D!

You could decide to be really strange and have each Mech crewed by a swarm of 6mm squids like these: http://brigademodels.co.uk/LandIronclads/Olympians.html

Good stuff.  These models might make a good addition to my 15mm collection.
