Anyone gamed the Re-unification War - Firefly
« on: March 16, 2016, 07:26:01 AM »
Re-discovered my firefly series DVD the other day and I'm really enjoying re-watching the episodes. I'm thinking I might incorporate same ideas into my ongoing 40K project but watching the series and doing a bit of background reading on the net has got me thinking about gaming the Re-unifiction War. What information I could find is pretty sketchy but I'm thinking a few brown coats and purple bellies would be a fun project. Anyone done anything in this area? What size minis did you use? Rules? pointers towards anything suitable appreciated.

Never got beyond pondering, but...

I quite liked the idea of these CSO troopers for Purplebellies

For Browncoats, I think this looks pretty good:-

Being, I believe a Pig Iron miniatures dude with a headswap from a ww2 US figure. Although I think Pig Iron is ceasing trading, so...

Cheers Desmond

I noticed the purple bellies looked slightly different in opening pilot scenes to the rest of the episodes now I see it's the Stahlhelm they are wearing.

I do like the WW2 tech stuff thrown in with the sci-fi.

Eisenkern Stormtroopers, with a head swap for the simple Stahlhelm look?

The 'purple-bellies' you see in the series (the post-war era) look more like the infantry from the Starship Troopers movie, although that's another line of figures you'll have a hard time getting.

Good luck - I'll be watching with interest!

For browncoats, check out the CSO Classic Troopers from Rezolution.  They look much better in person than the painted examples you can find online. A couple of the CSO Marshals also look the part.

That's a good suggestion. I had those figs for a while and they do look almost purpose-built as browncoats. Only the marshal figs have long coats, but based on the pics above, that might be just about right.

Note that the "Classic" CSO troopers are different from the purple-belly'ish ones pictured above.

At only $3 each, they're kind of a bargain too.

You could pretty well cover the Purplebellies and Brown Coats just from the CSO faction.

I had the classic CSO troops for a while, but never had the right project so I sold them on. I did keep the "Classic Field Engineer" however, and he eventually made it into one of my sci-fi gangs.

This is a sort of unfinished/never really started project for me. I was going to game larger battles from the Re-unification War using 10mm. I started by rebasing some old Mechwarrior plastics and added some more infantry from various Pendraken ranges.

I originally thought of using Futurewar Commander, but perhaps a good set of WW2 rules would fit the bill.

Indepentents - Browncoats and armour

Alliance armoured platoon

Air support for both sides

I really need to dig these out and finish them off.

The Alliance troops were kitted out with the same uniforms as the Starship Troopers film; they bought the props, so Starship Troopers minis will be perfect for them!

My Clear Horizon Mercs ended up painted much like the example on their site:

Although mine don't look as nice, it seems we all like brown coats!

Looks like a cool project. Our club has rebased a ton of Mechwarrior clix units.  We tried FWC at first, but they have mostly seen action with Panzer 8 Sci-Fi (super fast and fun), Mech Attack and Alpha Strike.  The last two are nice fast-moving rulesets that don't necessarily have to be mech-based.
