DBA-F&IW British Army
« on: December 21, 2008, 10:43:52 AM »
Hi,

I just thought I'd share some photos of my latest project, a DBA-F&IW British Army.

I finally got enough elements painted up to count it as finished. I still plan to add several further elements to it including 2 elements of Independent Companies, Fraser's Highlanders, Line Infantry and Infantry in campaign dress. The camp is larger than the normal DBA camp and I will be working on an alternative one along with some scenery and BUA once I have some spare time.

Sorry for the large quantity of pictures and I hope you enjoy looking at the photos. I'm off to start the French ... :D

All miniatures are 15mm Essex.

I enjoyed your miniatures very much. Thank you. The Fort is nice too and I like the terrain.

It's a very nice DBA-variant army. I like the selection of units that you've chosen to represent as the elements and I've always liked Essex's catalog of miniatures.

I understand the attraction of DBA as a rules set - it's simple and elegant in its own style, and a good way to dabble in historicals without investing in massive armies. I hope that you'll make a French (and Huron) army to go with this one, and that this in turn spurs you to a deep and abiding interest in the French & Indian War.

Thanks for the kind words Gentlemen :)

Pete,

Beside the odd individual miniature all my armies are made up using Essex Miniatures. I was going to use the Grenadiers as a combined unit but decided to base them with their regiments instead. I will most probably paint an element or two up at a later date.

I've found DBA a great, low cost way to dabble in various historical periods and have had a Zulu War DBA army for sometime. Blogs like Mr Farrow's are also fine inspiration: http://mrfarrow2udba.blogspot.com/

I am currently working through the French as well as working on the extra British elements I mentioned in my previous post. I have had a few British units painted up for This Very Ground and Brother Against Brother but decided to go down the DBA path as we use these rules regularly at our local club.

I have had a keen interest in the F&IW for sometime now and find myself becoming more and more drawn into the period.

Hi,

Just thought Id' share some of the latest additions to my French F&IW army along with some character conversions.

La Longue Carabine and Chingachgook

Above is a photo of the magnetic base which allows me to base some miniatures on washers so I can utilise tham in other games such as Brother Against Brother and This Very Ground

Magua and Hawkeye

Magua and Hawkeye: Rear

All are Essex Miniatures

All excellent work!  Really enjoyed the models.  DBA is one of those things in life where the jury is still out for me - I can't decide if I love it or hate it.  It is such an abstraction visually, but on the other hand, allows one to finish a small historical project before losing interest.

Thanks! I've had a few people ask "Why DBX?!?!?" There are a few reasons. It's a system a few of us are familiar with at the club and I've found it a good way to introduce the younger members of the club to Historical Wargaming. I'm also on a budget, have limited space and as I enjoy the painting/modelling side of the hobby more than the gaming side, I'm not really bothered by the how the game plays as it does others I know. I have fun and push my toys around which to me is all that really matters.

I've been rather busy lately but have managed to build myself another F&IW camp and thought I'd share the results. Natty Bumppo, Hawkeye to his friends and La Longue Carabine to his enemies is standing in for the camp follower who is still on the workbench.
