I had some packing material thrown my way so thought "something for Frostgrave? A templey-type thing, maybe?"

The snow was the issue. I wanted "dirty" snow - old and horrible; ancient snow that has been wind-blown, frozen, thawed, wind-blown, refrozen etc and thus is no longer a soft, white carpet but a harrowed twisted thing.

I'm disappointed with the result. It makes a perfectly useable terrain piece but - hmm; the snow..... :( :( :( See for yourself:

I quite like the pillar that's been split asunder by a spell but otherwise it's a bit of a downer.

Grumble, grumble.....

That looks like a lot of the snows I saw as a kid! Pretty cool piece of scenery to my eyes!

It looks just fine to me, mate.
A great bit of scenery.

If you want to try livening it up a bit make a paste out of white paint, PVA and bicarbonate of soda and make a few patches of it and then sprinkle neat soda. over it to test the 'look'.

If you like it: Splash it all over!

Thanks LordOdo but it looks a bit grainy to me.

Praise indeed - I'm beginning to see it in a different light.... :D thanks Joe.

Paul - have you used that? I'll give it a try in patches and see how it looks. Thanks for the comments.

Nasty is what I wanted so I appreciate that

Giles, I bottled using some of the many interesting recipes for snow that have been suggested here and opted for sand and pva, hoping that a wash and some dry brushing would make it look like snow. Still not sure.

Well thanks, jp but I doubt if it's better than your snow. Glad you like my 5 inchers although one has suffered a radical dysfunction and is now a mere 3 incher.

I'm glad to have received so many positive comments and I'd be lying if I didn't say I was hoping people would like the effect more than I do. It's definitely a useable bit of scenery and looks OK but if I do any more, I'll be trying a different snow technique. I think Mason's baking soda may get a go next. It's not liable to explode is it Paul?  :D

Anyway, I'll round off with a couple more shots:

The mausoleum, sarcophagus and dragon statue are all separate so the nature of the piece can be altered by using different items.

That is what I did to these bases....

I know that the light is a bit much in these pictures.
I will try a new picture or two next time the camera is released from its box.

Giles - yes they are; I've got lots of 'em; I knew they'd come in handy eventually. Always use the easiest method - that's my motto :-)

Cool Retro styling! Very effective though. I must have a look in my parents loft next time I am up there to see if I have any left.
