Which wizard type would suit me best?
« on: March 21, 2016, 12:11:25 PM »
I'm looking to create a nature based war band and wondered which wizard type might be best suited for me.

I was looking at the witch but not too sure. I see the wizard as more of a druid type as the concept will be the band will be plant people types.

Well a Witch gives you access to Animal Companion (use a treeman as a counts as Bear), Familiar (use a Mushroom-man or other plant), hounds can be counts-as cats and you've also got Brew Potion.

By my reckoning, the Witch seems to be the most likely candidate for a nature based warband with all of the animal-related spells available, and would be the best bet for my conception of a druid (mostly from D&D).  Some of the Thaumaturge spells would be appropriate too.  I think we will need more information about your concept in order to help you further.

You could go Summoner and say he has summoned the Plant People, then you could have some more funky Plant People to represent Imps and Demons, they don't have to be demonic looking, just use the Stats and provided your opponent knows what's what away you go. One of the great strengths of the game is its flexibility, you can pretty much 'sub' any figure for any soldier/creature.

Ok the war band is made up of plant people who have come out of hibernation now the ice is melting. They were created by one of the ancient wizards that lived in Frostgrave before the frost and they were his servants.

One of them became his apprentice and learned to do magic from him. This one has since taught his own apprentice in the ways of magic.

Now they have been revised they want to gather as much magic as possible to search for their master and possibly bring him back to life.

They do not necessarily control animals I was thinking more along the lines of plants. the poison dart spell fits well and the tree man could work to. I was going to rename fog to spore cloud but have the same effect and the potions could be viable as they could produce them from their knowledge of plants.

I suppose I've just confirmed my own choice of wizard type but wondered if there was another that might fit to so I can have a choice between a couple of types.

My suggestion would be to work backwards.  Go through all of the spells in order to determine which ones would best simulate the effects that you are trying to achieve.  From that reduced list of spells, choose the must-have spells from each applicable school of magic in order to further narrow the list.  The school of magic with the most must-have spells will be your best bet, unless its opposing school has must-haves as well.

On a slightly different track, any pictures of the Plant People?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see them!

You can explain almost any school with the right background.

Elementalist: acid/root/spine blasts/ walls
Enchanter: plant constructs/weapons moving things with roots etc.
Soothsayer: the trees whisper secrets
Summoner: plant entities
Thamaturge: healing plants ect

thanks everyone for the comments  :)

All my figures turned up today so now I just need to find time to start painting them which will be a feat in itself  :(

So I have

1x wizard
1x apprentice
2x swordsmen
1 x knight
1 x archer / marksman
1x soldier (with hammer)
1x thief
1x dog handler (though he has an animated pumpkin instead)
