(COMMERCIAL) VIII Corps: The Somme 1916
« on: March 24, 2016, 04:09:55 PM »
I'm pleased to announce a new partnership with Neal Reid to commercialise his new card game "VIII Corps: The Somme 1916".

In the introduction Neal describes the game as follows:

Quote
This two player card game covers the experience of the British VIII Corps on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, July 1st 1916.

The game follows the course of the pre-battle preparation and the first day of the battle itself. One player is commander of VIII Corps, Lt. General Sir Aylmer Hunter-Weston. The other his opponent Lt. General Hermann von Stein commander of the German XIV Reserve Corps.

This is not a balanced game and one where the British will find it very hard to win.

The game is currently in the final stages of development.  The pdf release is scheduled for the end of April when it will be released in separate A4 & US letter versions. The pdf bundle will contain a rules booklet, a booklet of illustrated examples of play and three sets of cards for you to print at home. We are contemplating producing printed cards if there's sufficient demand.

If you would like to know more you can read about Neal's early development work on his blog plus you can sign up online to be notified of the release date and let us know if you'd be interested in printed cards.

I'm pleased to say that Neal Reid's first card game is ready! In fact we have finished earlier than expected but we are going to stick to our original launch date at the end of the month.

The A4 & US Letter versions will be released on Fri, April 29th. A set of pdfs will be $14.50 from the Vexillia Limited store at Wargame Vault.

Nearer the launch date we'll be releasing some sample pages. Those of you who signed up to the temporary mailing list have already been sent some samples and other goodies.

As if Neal & I didn't need a rest, Neal is already working on the next game in what is destined to be a series of six. I'll be able to release more details before the launch of VIII Corps.

Meanwhile here's a sample shot of the final card design:

If you are interested in buying printed cards you should know we've decided to wait until we see the general response to the launch of VIII Corps. If we go ahead we are likely to look for a graphic artist to join the project team and enhance the pdf designs even further.

There's a temporary mailing list if you would like to receive direct updates by email or just express an interest in buying printed cards. We'll shut down the list once the rules have been released.

There's only one week to go before the launch of Neal Reid's new WWII card game at Wargame Vault. As part of the build-up, the first six pages of the rules have been released as a free download.

The samples contain the historical background, an overview of the game, how to set up the game, and the basic turn sequence. Visit vexillia.com to download your copy today.

This new card game is now available from Wargame Vault. For more details and free sample pages visit the Vexillia books page.

Neal and I have been looking forward to the launch. We've really enjoyed developing the game and on Tuesday we start work on the next one. We hope to have it ready by the end of June.

And, no it's not about Marvel's latest blockbuster.

Following the successful launch of the VIII Corps game the development of the second card game in the Somme Series, X Corps, is now well under way. The new card decks have been designed and tested.

Historically X Corps faced a much easier task than VIII Corps so the game has a finely balanced set of victory conditions although the British still face a difficult task.

The cards and rules for X Corps are built on those used for VIII Corps with the addition of some new cards and mechanisms. X Corps introduces the use of “No Man’s Land” reflecting its importance to both sides and the German use of artillery in both tactical defence and in supporting counter-attacks.

The release of X Corps is pivotal to the rest of the Somme Series of card games. In the coming months we will be releasing three further games: III, XV and XIII Corps. They will use the same rules as X Corps with card decks tailored to match the different experiences of each Corps on July 1st 1916. Therefore we are taking extra care to ensure the X Corps rules are "spot on".

III, XV and XIII Corps will be released as supplements to X Corps and contain just a set of cards. You will need a copy of X Corps to play these games.

Exciting times indeed. Visit the Vexillia News archive and sign up for our email newsletter to receive the latest news direct to your mailbox.

X Corps, the second game in the Somme series of card games, will be released this coming Friday and work on the third game , III Corps, is well under way.

To mark this, and the centenary of the first day of the Somme, there will be a 72 hour flash sale of VIII Corps the first game in the series.

From 30 June the game will be reduced to $12.00 when bought using these links: A4 (Euro) and US letter (N America).

One note of caution: the timing of the start of the sale will be governed by the time zone used by the Wargame Vault web site which is in the USA. This shouldn't be a problem unless you are trying to use the links in the early hours of Thursday: just try again after 08:00 GMT.

Meeples & Miniatures have just published a review of VIII Corps.  They suggested we add card backs. This has been on the "to do list" for while but got lost as we prepared for the launch of X Corps.   So we extracted the digit to add these full colour card backs to both the X & VIII Corps pdf bundles:

Don't forget X Corps was released today and there's a 48 hr flash sale of VIII Corps.
