... The side kick opted to dodge.
The follower rolled a 6 the sidekick a 2, 4 & 4. The sidekick was matching due to dodging but couldn't cancel the 6 so received one unanswered hit & couldn't dodge away - in effect wasting her 4's. Is this the correct interpretation?
100% correct.
Dodge is a purely defensive option. And is rolled when you simply want to have your
best chance to avoid damage. But you must score equal or higher than the enemy. This is done for game balance. If you only need to roll a success (4+) - dodging would be too easy/powerful.
If the sidekick had elected to brawl and rolled 4 & 4 with her 2 D6 the follower was now matching but being intent on pressing home the attack didn't cancel either of the 4s but hit her once. The sidekick can this time use her 2x 4's to inflict two hits on the follower - again is this the correct interpretation?
100% correct.
Dodge is not always the best option - just because you might have more dice in it. You really want to consider the situation/goals and how much you are willing to
risk?
I'm not saying Dodge was the wrong option in the example. Based on the odds, it was probably a good choice - depending on what else was happening. He just rolled too low. That
is going to happen sometimes.
