The Sand Pebbles a Game Report
« on: January 22, 2007, 10:07:21 AM »
When I saw that movie I had the idea to make a wargame with this background.

I talked with Grimm about this idea and he was immediately aflame. We planned this game for the Tactica  convention in Hamburg in February.

Together with Frank we build the board. Chris constructed the Gunboat and Grimm used his talented fingers and created  the beautiful scenery.

On our Lead Adventure club meeting in Kiel in January we made a testrun of the game.

This participatian game is designed for 4 players and one gamemaster. The players are allowed to use all objects on the tabletop. Roleplaying elements are essential for the fun.

We have four forces. The US Gun Boat sailors. They are in war torn China for the balance and for protecting the european and american citizens there. In this game a  group of americans in the buddha temple

We also have a group of ruthless american and european adventurers disguised as archaeologists, but they are there to rob the prehistoric treasures of China.

A well equiped force with trucks and a machinegun is sent by an evil Chinese Warlord.

And last but least a group of Chinese freedom fighters today probably known as bandits and terrorists.

Each force has a goal  to win the game. The goals are secret to make the game more excited.

I will not tell much about the goals, because until the Tactica Convention it should be a secret.

Only that much. The US Gun Boat sailors must save the Missionary, daughter, friends and servants.

Although there is violence and trouble in China its a sunny and peaceful day. Time for a walk.

After a rich breakfast the american archaeologists preparing to leave. There trucks are full with fossils.  Millionaire collectors paid a lot for the stuff.

Meanwhile Captain Miller and a detachment of his gun boat sailors reached the temple. "Mr Soerensen, we expect trouble. It is my mission to guide you and your daughter save to the U.S.S. San Pablo"

The local bandit chief hired some whores to slow down the american truck transport. They are waiting on a crossroad and present there nice attributes.
But the Americans have no time for l`amour. So they send there guard dog.
The trick would probably worked better with the French !

Meanwhile some crewmembers of the San Pablo hire chinese to build a barricade.

The Chinese bandits lay an ambush on some chinese warlord soldiers. they kill a few but the Warlord menages to get his HMG in position.
For a few bursts more RATATATATATATATATATATA the bandits had to withdraw.

"Damn it....what the heck.... pull left....more speed....AN AMBUSH...We are all gonna die !!!!!"
There is machine gun fire comming from the left. Only because the gunner is so darn rotten the car and its crew manages to escape. They drive to the banks of the river and unload the crates.

But ...Banditos are waiting for them. And one of those bastards destroyed the boat with his axe. A  fight started.

Meanwhile the warlords soldiers menage to enter the Temple with help of the HMG.

And the gun boat sailors send more troops for a free China.

Look Dad I can fly like a bird.
Yes Dear, hope there is no Iceberg.

Hope you enjoyed the report and pics !

Hi Kurgan,
we used my rules. They have no name yet. So I call them My Rules.
The rules cover the years from 1880 until 1930. Actually I only wanted rules for Darkest Afrca but I found out that I can use them for lots of other conflicts too.

Very nice, indeed.

I have a couple of qustions:

What manufactor made the tents?

What kind of mat did you use to make the wheat(?)-field? I have been looking for something to make such fiels, but they always seem too coarse or too short, or something.....

Driscoles, could you be persuaded into sharing your rules?
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Fantastic report!

I really like the Chinese freedom terrorist insurgent fighters. And I really hope the blonde in the red dress falls off the bow and gets keelhauled.

Hello,

thanks for the nice comments.

@Argonnor:
I have no idea who made those tents. They are Grimms. And I envy him for having them. Iam sure he will tell you where you can get them.

Until the rules are not completely finnished there is no chance to see them.
We are still playtesting.
