high -lighting your figures ?
« on: April 05, 2016, 06:20:33 PM »
Hi Brothers
Do  I/really need to high- light my  28mm figures If they are in blocks of 16-40 figs strong ?

The thing is i game mainly in `15mm and as i house rule dont highlight them I might to there main coat trousers but thats it . I take on the  3 ft rule what you dont see at 3 ft why paint it !

I have started painting my 1812 British done the usual black knight paint job.just washed them  and now i am looking at doing some high lights ? jacket trousers rifles/muskets do i really need to spend time doing it .

reasons why i should ..
They wil look better on the table..  (but will they look that much better )

reason NOT to do it .
  Time .
If i High Light every fig that i plan to do thats around 250 figs =  around 5 hours which I loss= 24 figs
painted.. so i could paint another unit up in the time i add H/L them all.

Yes i might get a few members say to me they look good did you paint them up yourself  ect.. but i dont paint them up for members to look at .. I paint them up to have Cracking good games with them  :) .

Do you know what Brothers.! i have just answered my own answer will not bother doing High lights ..  :D

bloody hell i could of under coated my next 12 figs ..arse this dam machine takes up too much of mee time.

Happy gaming LR..

I would hazard a guess that if you're painting for regimental level gaming, rather than highlighting you'll get satisfying time/effect balance with one of the various shade washes available.

I have just started painting AWI.
My decision is to paint them to a good war game standard or
highlighting and outlining. Taking more time to do it.
I decided to paint them in a good standard, in mass they will look good.
I want figures on the table fast as I can turn them out.
I guess it turns out if I am happy with how them turn out that is fine with me.
Average time per figure is about 35 minutes per figure.
I usually paint about 12 to 20 figures at a time.

Okay then.  lol

I might tidy up some of the messier wash patches, on upward-facing surfaces, with the base colour or something slightly lighter; but that might be too much work if you're (rhetorical you're) not that bothered about it.
