Crimean armies 28mm made with old Britannia Miniatures?
« on: April 06, 2016, 11:27:58 AM »
Just wondered if any of you had assembled a Crimean Army using the old Britannia Miniatures 28mm, somewhat Cartoonish but have a charm of their own

Hi Shipka, yes I've got quite a few and I agree they do have a certain charm, not to everyones taste mind lol.
I started collecting them on release decades ago and more recently been purchasing replacements from Gubby's to swop broken bayonets, the original metal was awful and very brittle, not so now though but the recent casting do seem to have a lot of casting lines so the moulds must be deteriorating somewhat  :)

Tom Penn my wargaming buddy and author of principles of war rules has a huge Crimean pair of armies by Britannia. We refought the Alma at the games club (I still have the trophy for best General for my sterling Russian defence) and I believe the figures were used in the final scene of the Four Feathers. As you say, they are strange characters but quite charming.

Would love to see them painted up....I always liked them when they came out...but they were the only Crimean game in town at the time.
