Let it snow let it snow let it snow! (please help)
« on: December 28, 2008, 07:16:31 PM »
Goodevening everyone.

Ive just rebased these Areosans.

Now, these are my only mini's that are on snowy bases, so I dident want to go all out and by an entire bag/tub of snowy flock, mostly because that would involve me traveling to the city.

I was thinking of asking if anyone could spare a few penny's worth of the stuff and send it to me in the post...but then I thought.....fine white powder.......in the post.....probbably not the best of ideas.

So, basicly, I was wondering if anyone knew how I could manafacture a small amount of snowy looking stuff from domestic foodstuffs, I have some iceing suger and flower about somewhere, but I thought I'd come here first and see if anyone could tell me quite how to turn this into snow.

Thanks everyone

The snow on my santa (xmas comp. group II) is a cheap brand of wall filler (polyfilla) and you can get the same effect with tiling grout. It is not even painted. ::) The foodstuffs you mention along with wash powder etc. should all work but you will have to consider degredation from decay. Some of these can be negated by mixing with PVA instead of water but this can still yellow with age.

Now tell me more about the Aerosans. I must profess my total ignorance of them. Do you have any more pictures?

White glue and Baking Soda work wonders! For my snowy bases I build some snowdrifts or minor texturing out of polyfill, and then once that hardens I mix white paint and PVA glue and coat the base. Then I sprinkle Baking Soda on it to cover it, and shake off the excess once it dries. Then I spray it with a matte sealant to protect it. Looks great, quite simple to do as well. So let it snow!!
