Grumbledook's Fantasy Flibbertigibbetry
« on: April 09, 2016, 11:45:44 PM »
So, in keeping with my ever increasing capacity for getting distracted or bored with projects I've decided to activate one of my old dreams. I always loved the Mordheim game but at the time was spending my hard earned lucre on Warmaster but imagined a day when I could, perhaps, create a tiny 10mm version of the narrative based game. It appears that the day has now dawned, and I hurridly scrambled through my (neglected for about a year) stash of the wonderful Polar Fox steppe goblins to get started on and here they are in their undercoated glory!

Having recently failed at getting past one painted miniature for Frostgrave, I thought I'd give the City based race for riches genre another stab. This initial bunch of goblins gives plenty of options for goons and a character choices as there are spearmen, swordsmen, archers and even a sneaky backstabby type too and there are plenty more to add to this bunch such as; a Troll, Wolf riding archer to scout ahead and some really mean looking Orks as well as Shamen and so forth.

I also thought this would be a great way to crack open and use some of my Warmaster stash which has basically sat in a box since purchasing. I've got some great Araby characters, Kislev ones too, Dwarfs, the odd High Elf Mage and the empire are spoiled for choice with Wizards, characters and the Empire Skirmisher blister basically has all the figures you need for a warband - throw in some Zweihanders and even Pikemen (fun for outrageously impractical City Watch types) from the wonderful Warmonger Miniatures and I hope to have figures for at least a half dozen warbands........ and oh my, I just remembered the lovely good and evil character sets from Copplesone Casting's 10mm range.

So many possibilities!

I've really got my fingers crossed for this project actually happening.

Must......focus.......not........get.........distracted.

Thanks for looking.

Here's a pair of Steppe Goblin spearmen, this little Mordheim warband is perfect for practice for my Warmaster plans!

Also here are some size comparison pics of the Pendraken Ottomans who I'm going to use in my Araby (or more precisely Merchant City-State) Army.

Here they are posing between GW Empire and Araby strips:

And here they are hanging tough with some Polar Fox Goblins and Magister Militum Sultan's Guards:

More waffle over on the blog.

Thanks for looking!

The Gobbo's look great, funny enough I'm starting Araby for Warmaster using the Oligarchy of the Sands range from MM

Thanks Chico, I'm still kicking myself for not stocking up on the Araby models before they were discontinued, they really were a great range. The MM Oligarchy look pretty good I've only got the Golden Guard and the Djinns (spent my hobby fund on their rather lovely undead and halflings!), but I also fancy quite a bit from their Saracen Medieval range (the Saracen and Persian infantry in particular).

Managed to get started on a test base of Ottoman musketeers last night, who I'm planning to use as an elite unit with their long muskets.

Also made a start on my Chaos Dwarf (Eureka Miniatures so they're like the 80's Chaos Dwarfs) war maggot-thing, for which I'm building a platform with cannon for it to carry...... a picture of the work in progress will be up tonight!

Your Polar Fox goblins look rather well. I wasn't much convinced when I saw them on the online store, but this wipes away all my doubts about them.

Yeah I wasn't into Warmaster (Only dabbled in it when it first came out for alittle while) when the range went Fanatic the Spec games so I missed out on alot of fun little ranges like Dark Elves and Araby.

I love the Eureka 10mm ranges though, the Chaos Dwarfs are top notch but I really just can't justify they price of nearly £9 for 30 figures.

Just finished off my Orc force using Copplestone and Kallistra (Pictures on my Blog), was looking at Polarfox but again price as it always does popped up once again.

Thanks for the positive noises!

Reed: I was a bit unsure myself when buying them, since I couldn't find any info on them anywhere but on the site. So I was really pleased when they arrived and I could check them out properly, the guy who creates them was also a pleasure to deal with.

Chico: Checked out your Orcs on the blog and think they look great, nice detailing and I particularly like the red Trolls. You're right about the surprisingly high cost of 10mm though, especially when you compare it to 15mm I think, I must admit that 10mm has always been a personal weakness though and I've been selling up pretty much all of my old specialist games stuff to get shiny new toys with!

Want more? Well here's some do-dads to tickle your fancy!

Goblin fighter for micro-Mordheim:

A test front rank for my 'Araby' Elite Mercenary Jezails:

And a W.I.P of my Chaos Dwarf Monstrous Maggot beasty thing, eeeewwwwwwwww:

More words about all this stuff on the blog, if anyone fancies a gander.

Thanks for looking!

That goblin fighter is a great model. And the paintjob does him justice.

Who made the maggot model?

Chico: Cheers, I'm still experimenting with the green skin tone. It might not look it but I've used a different green on each one initially hoping to find a favourite, but I think I'll keep using random greens to give them a bit of variety. Trouble is, I'm probably the slowest painter on earth so I never get the chance to game with anything!

Shaved Dwarf: The Maggot is the Maggot Cavalry from hitech miniatures, never seen the model before, never heard of the company so I was pretty chuffed when I came across it in a bargain bin for a few pounds at Salute! Here's a linky:

http://hitechminiatures.com/monsters/167-maggot-cavalry.html?search_query=Maggot&results=1

It's pretty fun, but you only get one in a box and I've no idea if it would be worth the full asking price. Nice model though.

Stunning painting on those 10mm critters. I took the same path time ago but it's now abandoned. Here's my blog in case you are interested: http://javieratwar.blogspot.com.es/search/label/Campaign.%20Warrior%20Heroes%20Armies%20and%20Adventurers and also my 10mm gallery and a 10mm Mordheim game.
I'll follow your progress.
Cheers,
