How do you "create" the backdrop?

I just positioned an old photo (chromolithograph) from a book behind the ship and figures.

Lovely work. The camouflage skirt actually does not look too dissimilar from from early-20th century tapestries (with an "autumn" theme), which I think is a great coincidence (?).

Hhm, it's the camouflage pattern of british paras of WWII ...
