Adobe hillside village UD: 18/6 completed board (20 images)
« on: April 21, 2016, 11:47:04 PM »
Well, not terraforming but a little side project converting and repurposing some terrain boards.

Motivated by the awesome works of De DeAth and others, I was tempted by 15mm SciFi and constructed an arid planet board of 6 of 30cm sq tiles. I couldn't get on with the smaller scale minis so the project died ..... Sad....

Some might recall the habitation tile:

I have some Apache minis on the go and I was also really taken with the new plastic Colonial Brits shown by Perry at Salute.  So the 15mm scifi habitation unit is now well on its way to become a 28mm hillside Adobe complex:

Next up will be plastering the Adobe.

This will probably just pootle along but I can imagine another 3 tiles of houses and crops (making 9 in total)  for 'escape and evade' games as post-Maiwand displaced British survivors try to escape their Afghan pursuers. Maybe.  :D

Thanks chaps  :D

Forgot to add, the sand texture is presently very smooth for 15mm minis but will get a new rougher surface more in keeping with 28s.

As regards not throwing stuff away, my wip 2nd Boer War terrain tiles (the mojo for that project was sprinting along and then suddenly slumped to a halt, as if running into water!) will also likely be absorbed into this board, albeit without the railway track.

Why thank you  :D

I actually dropped the height of the roof plinths as they looked too much like castle walls rather than structural consequences.

Stuck at home today so plastered the walls. When it's cured I'll cut back the window and door holes than etch planks onto the balsa inserts already in place. I'm not sure whether or not to expose the integral mud bricks. I've not been to the Arizona Badlands nor the Afghan Valleys but I have seen these types of houses in Morocco and unless abandoned the outer stucco was always in good repair with not a brick in sight. Thus my quandary about revealing bricks: as this will be a busy home it seems likely it would be in good repair.

The other 5 tiles from the scifi board will get a new sand texture though I do plan to add more houses, an irrigated field and a small river on the 3 extra tiles idc.

Progress has been made  :)

Next step will be to slap on the paint then add some clumps of dry grass.

With one of my Plastic Perry Afghan Conversions for scale:

(NB: glue is still wet)

Wow, very taken with those.   :-*  The Spartan Games in-development Halo ground combat game will be 15mm, and I'd had an image of some colony houses in the back of my mind for some time now as a "to-do" when that comes out.  Now I remember where that came from...  :D ;)
