How do you get that contrast, I really like it, I think you have a really good understanding of colours and what works,

When I do it it never looks that good.

lovely just lovely.

Hagen, that's another labour of love of yours! Absolutely brilliant. I know that you paint lots of thin layers and that it's very time consuming, but the results are just marvelous!  :-* :-* :-*

How do you get that contrast...
I build up constrasts by shading with very dark shades and highlighting with bright lights.
E.g.: I used Foundry Rawhide (11A, 11B, 11C) on some of the bandits cloths. To get a strong contrast I extended this 3-shades-range to a 5-shades-range simply by mixing a little black with 11A (Rawhide Shade) and mixing white with 11C (Rawhide light). Extreme contrasts are a matter of taste though. Gives the minis a rather pulpy than a 'historical correct' look. But hey, this is the Lead-Adventure Forum anyway  ;)

BTW: taking photos with a black background also seems to strengthen the contrast.

Cheers,
Hagen

Quite inspiring painting. They just "pop" when you see these.

I have to say, abbot_amaury, I appreciate that you're answering our questions and responding to our kudos.  I have to admit that it kind of bothers me when people post pretty pictures, as if merely asking for our praise, and fail to respond to the praise when it's delivered.  This especially bugs me when individuals post their pretty pictures both here and at Steve Dean's forum, as if they are gracing us here at LAF with their magnificance, but really don't have the time to hobnob with the locals.  With your feedback, however, you're making it clear that you're an interested and helpful member of our community.  Thanks.

Thanks Hagen

I have been trying to get a better contrast, as I think my stuff can be a bit wishy washy, I'll give it a try and see what gives.

Awesome.  The composition of the group in terms of colour tones really makes the whole much more impactful than the (already superb) sum of the parts.  Excellent.  :-*
