i plan on buying a starter kid for my 7-year-old godson for his birthday in july, with the dark alchemy campaign for coop as soon as it is available in german (if it ever is). it's not a real problem to use the translation of the spells on new cards and maybe add some more cinematic descriptions for him to imagine what happens. after all, style > substance  ;)

i addition, a warbandplastic box, some warhounds, a mage and an apprentice should be perfect - i've already brought him and his dad to really love x-wing, the next logical step, imho, is to show them a real tabletop... so, i'm really thankful for your insights here!

All this talk of SOBH is making me want to take a look at it. But I just bought FG and Dark Alchemy recently.

I see there's an Advanced version of SOBH.  Anyone have experience with this version?  Also, it seems like the game is co-op out of the gate because you can solo play.  Is that correct?

Sorry for the questions but I'm hopping on here in between putting out fires at work, so I can't really do the research atm.  :)

You can solo play ASOBH, and I do recommend that version over the regular one... it clarifies some stuff and adds an extra layer (optional) of complexity for spells and small details like that.
