Stragglers in the Sword and the Flame
« on: May 14, 2016, 03:49:14 PM »
I know that when you declare a charge move you roll for Stragglers. How ever many you get have their moved halved. I have always played that they are not able to move into hand to hand even if they have enough movement to do so, I was just wondering if that is what everyone else does or do they allow them to enter combat if they can make it?

Again I thought so to but it does not say that any where so if in their ability to move half their movement they can make it into combat why wouldn't they?

i really don't think so....the ability to have all your unit participating at the fight is , as you certainly know, a characteristic of a cohese troop..the British Infantry for example..on the opposite the savage foes did'nt have this cohesion ...and that is also reflected in the stagglers rule..a staggler in my opinion and probably in the opinion of the desgner of the rules TSATF..is something between coward or lazy...so no participation at the fight

in the rules they taht...after the conclusion of every dice trow and combat ..the stragglers can join the parent unit...so indipendently taht their dice trow...before the ending of the fight..they have to stay in the rear and not participate in mélée

The Holy Writ says "[stragglers] move only half the distance the resto of the Unit moves."
It's not the movement roll, but the actual movement distance. I move the unit into contact then move the stragglers halfway there.

I never read it that way. It makes more sense. Thanks for helping us solve a small problem.

All the above replies are correct -- in TSATF "Stragglers" NEVER advance into contact with the object of the charge and so, if a melee does ensue, NEVER participate in the hand-to-hand to combat.
