Egyptian scenery & accessories
« on: January 08, 2009, 12:11:35 PM »
I was watching the old Doctor Who story 'Pyramids of Mar's last night - great stuff. It put me in half a mind for gaming ideas.

Can anyone suggest 28mm Egyptian scenery? I've heard of Hirst Arts, but would prefer to buy rather than cast myself. Also keen on sarcophagi and statues.

I've seen that the Wargods of Aegyptus range has some nice accessories - canopic jars and so on - that would make great encounter markers etc. Is there a UK stockist? All the places I've found online seem to carry the main ranges of minis (Basti etc), but not those extra accessories.

Thanks for any pointers - it'll help me decide if this is something to turn into a project, or just a five minute distraction from the stuff on my painting table that I really ought to be getting no with first...

Monolith do a lot of Egyptian scenery, as do Scotia Grendel, there's probably something in their ranges that you can use.  :)

In fact, yes, there's quite a lot of stuff on here (and the next page):

Oh, and Ral Partha do this rather groovy Pharaoh's Tomb set for less than a fiver:

Which can be found here:

Am I being useful yet?  lol

There's an eBay store that sells packs of Hirst Arts kits - all the blocks have been cast already so you just need to clean up the blocks, construct and paint it.  They seem fairly cheap and they've got a fair number of Egyptian themed kits available.

http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/egyptian has a bunch of options, and their Nefsokar faction for Warlord has a lot of potential for conversion into statues as well.

I second Jolly Bob's excellent suggestion of ScotiaGrendel, as they are available here in the UK.
Look at Armourcast in the States a very impressive range of Egyptian stuff.

Some aquarium decoration: I even have a couple of pyramids and several statues from that source.

Nice one guys, thanks. And yes JollyBob - you've been *very* useful!

Now I just need to decide how much I want to distract myself from current projects...

For 28mm Egyptian scenery on the cheap, I recommend the "Ancient Egypt Toob" (seen here):

http://safariltd.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SL&Product_Code=699304

The plastic is a bit soft and bendy, but that is easily rectified with some minor basing/painting/conversion work and you really can't beat the price...

Crocodile Games has a special flat-rate of $8 International Shipping for small items, like the Icons & Artifacts range.
